Paco Rabanne ranks amongst the most important designers in fashion history and is known as one of the most innovative designers in the use of futuristic materials.

Born in February 1934 in Pasaia in the Spanish Basque Country, Francisco Rabaneda y Cuervo, his mother and 3 of his brothers fled to France after his father, a colonel in the King of Spain, was shot by the Francoists. Rabanne became acquainted with fashion as a child because his mother worked for another famous Basque designer, Cristobal Balenciaga.

Plastic, paper, metal, and chains - the materials that were innovative for fashion at the time - were the DNA of Paco Rabanne's revolutionary couture. His creations seduced stars and shaped the cultural context of those years. The most famous look, the one of Jane Fonda in the film Barbarella (1968), became iconic and the symbol of this mood.
