For the Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2023 FW season, which will take place from March 13 to 18, 2023, the Japan fashion week organization (hereinafter indicated as Jfwo), rather than simply returning to how things were before the corona pandemic, will be changing directions towards a new stage for further developments, with the “fusing of digital and physical” and “strengthening of power to transmit globally”, the new formats cultivated these past two years (past four seasons, including the one time the event was cancelled) at the base.

In this upcoming FW 23, in addition to digital projects and transmission of key visuals original to Tokyo’s fashion week, new whirls through physical exchanges and/or activities will be created.

The key visual concept of the FW 2023 season is “Wearing Tokyo”. It is a visual expression overlaying sights of Tokyo compared to clothing patterns on Mr. Gendai, a Japanese model active in worldwide stages. Along with the key visual, the organization has developed an original typography (photo cover), designing the “Fashion Week Tokyo” name itself into a sight of Tokyo. “Tokyo tower”, the symbol of Tokyo, “Nakagin capsule tower”, a landmark representing Tokyo, “Kabukicho Ichibangai arch”, the energy of Tokyo, along with signals and manhole covers, etc. Each letter is shaped in sights of Tokyo.

Since the FW 2020 which was cancelled due to influences of the spread of the corona pandemic, and the SS 2021 season which was held amid the corona pandemic in which only 20% gave physical presentations, at most approximately 50%. But in the last season, this revived to approximately 70%, showing a revival to situations prior to the pandemic. In the upcoming FW 23 season, a total of 58 brands (55 presentations, 43 brands giving physical presentations, 15 brands giving digital presentations, with 17 first-time participants, 6 brands participating from overseas), including the two brands giving presentations through “by R”, the support project of Rakuten Group, Inc. (hereinafter indicated as Rakuten) to support Japanese brands, will be participating. This season again, the event is scheduled to be held at the main venues of Shibuya Hikarie, Omotesando Hills, along with other venues chosen by individual brands.
