With the opening of Milan fashion week, young designers showcased their creations on the catwalk of International Lab of Mittelmoda-The Fashion Award, hosted at Micam Milan aslo this year, and Milano Moda Graduate 2023.
Ied-Istituto Europeo di Design took home both prestigious awards dedicated to Fashion Design talents.
Ied haș excelled at the International Lab of Mittelmoda-The Fashion Award 2023 competition with Ied's new graduates Francesco Matera and Alessio Baldasseroni, who won, among the 26 finalist, the Innovation prize, with a budget of 10,000 euros, offered by Confindustria Moda and the Italian Textile Foundation, thanks to the fashion and accessory collection Materia, adaptive and inclusive.
The project springs from a desire to restore balance and harmony within ourselves and with all that surrounds us. It is characterised by the strong ability to adapt to the bodily needs of the individual and the spatiality that one experiences externally.
The purpose is to shed light on the struggle for equal rights and gender equality, realised through the design of sustainable garments and a genderless aesthetic, as well as through strong technical and production innovations. “The intended value is in an existentialist, adaptive fashion, a product that stems from a rethink of the human dimension in its links with spatiality and physicality,” explained the designers.
In addition, Ied showed at Milano Moda Graduate 2023, the event promoted by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion and dedicated to excellence of schools, with Matteo Tomaino, graduated from Ied Turin who won the special mention in the main Fashion Design category with the capsule collection Sentimental viscera. Ied also participated in Milano Moda Graduate with the designer couple Matera and Baldasseroni who presented an outfit from the Materia collection for the YKK Italia section, main sponsor of the event.
The talents presenting their collections during Milano Moda Donna were selected by a jury of industry professionals from the best fashion schools: from a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 8 newly graduated students for the Fashion Design section and 10 designers for the section supported by Ykk. The former presented a capsule collection of 5 or 6 outfits, while the latter created an outfit focusing on the closure accessories provided by Ykk.
