The Council of Fashion Designers of America-Cfda celebrated the winners and honorees of the 2023 Cfda Fashion Awards. Hosted by Anne Hathaway, the event took place at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
Each year the Cfda Fashion Awards celebrate and honor the power of self-expression. On Nov. 06, the fashion community came together to recognize the work of those who champion creativity and serve as ambassadors for American fashion.
Cfda chairman Thom Browne welcomed honorees, nominees, and 2023 Cfda Fashion Awards guests with opening remarks at the start of the ceremony. The Academy Award-winning actress also presented the American Womenswear Designer of the Year award with Narciso Rodriguez to Catherine Holstein of Khaite.
Willy Chavarria, who launched his own label in 2015, took home the American Menswear Designer of the Year trophy, beating out Mike Amiri for Amiri, Colm Dillane for KidSuper, Teddy von Ranson for Teddy Vonranson and Thom Browne for Thom Browne New York. Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row were awarded the American Accessory Designer of the Year edged out nominees Ana Khouri, Brandon Blackwood, Stuart Vevers for Coach, and Raul Lopez for Luar. The Google American Emerging Designer of the Year award went to Rachel Scott of Diotima, who got the best of Bach Mai, Connor McKnight, Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell of Tanner Fletcher, and Carly Mark of Puppets and Puppets.
Serena Williams was named Fashion Icon, while Domenico De Sole won the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert, and Jonathan Anderson took home the International Award for JW Anderson and Loewe.
During the evening, Vera Wang received the board of directors tribute; Maria Cornejo received the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award; Alina Cho was awarded the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard; Mara Hoffman took home the Environmental Sustainability Award; and Gwyneth Paltrow of Goop received the Innovation Award.
