The Louvre is ready to host the first exhibition dedicated to fashion.
"This is the first time that the Louvre has decided to create an exhibition on the relationship between fashion and its collections", said Olivier Gabet, director of the decorative arts department of the Louvre Museum, to WWD. The exhibition, whose title has yet to be finalized, will focus on "trying to understand why museums can be interesting and important for people designers and how our collections, particularly those of the Louvre, can nourish and inspire stylists' collections, the best ambassador for museums and similar institutions."
Scheduled to run from January 24 to July 21, 2025, the exhibition will extend over 900 meters square and consist of around 65 dresses and 30 accessories from the 1960s to today. With set designs by Natalie Criniere, the exhibition will analyze the influence of precious items from the Middle Ages to the Second French Empire.
"I think that today's fashion is even more interesting when it is shown about other fields. When you talk to a stylist, obviously he's talking about fashion, but it also talks about art, it talks about craftsmanship, it talks about photography. It's a big change right now, the way fashion looks at itself about other fields of creation", concluded Oliver Gabet.
