A medley of styles, famous names and a great numbers of interesting talents packed the schedule of Milan Women's Fashion Week, held from September 17 to 23, 2024. Among physical and digital fashion shows, presentations in addition to these by appointment, and other events. Appearing for the first time on the fashion show calendar emerging designers including 1989 Studio, Taller Marmo, Maccapani, Chiccomao, Phan Dang Hoang, Enterprise Japan, Defaience by Nicola Bacchilega.
1989 STUDIO
1989 Studio, founded in Los Angeles in 2021 and acquired by Italian Folli Follie Group in 2022, is a brand that acts as a cultural hub that mixes West Coast street style with Italian elegance. The brand envisions an inclusive world where luxury meets accessibility, blending sportswear with relaxed tailoring. Under the new ownership, 1989 Studio continues to redefine style, where street culture meets Italian sophistication.
TALLER MARMO
Founded by Riccardo Audisio and Yago Goicoechea, Taller Marmo is named after the Spanish word for laboratory and the Italian word for marble, an indicator of the designers' experimentation with innovative techniques and luxury fabrics. Defined by a modern take on occasion wear, the brand employs clean, relaxed cuts in bold and empowering fabrics, where a focus on craftsmanship intertwines with a fun and fabulous spirit. Taller Marmo collections are exclusively made in Italy by experienced artisans. Taller Marmo produces its collections entirely in Italy, in small and medium family-owned factories. Driven by nostalgia and passion for the old school Italian craftsmanship, the brand choses to partner exclusively with family-owned factories and manufacturers, located nearby its Milan headquarters to preserve the iconic Made in Italy heritage.
MACCAPANI
Margherita Maccapani Missoni, previously creative director of her family's line M Missoni, founded Maccapani in July 2023. Maccapani is a new forward-looking take on “made-in-Italy” that goes beyond the contemporary wardrobe within the clash of youth culture & tradition. A new mode, a new shared language, with function as core, inspired and enchanced by the women's body as a way of self-expression and freedom. The young label accentuates Italian production of soft jersey with original silhouettes, and the project has already attracted a good network of investors, including Marco Bizzarri. The family of former Gucci ceo has taken a minority stake in the Italian knitwear womenswear brand.
CHICCOMAO
Chiccomao, founded in Beijing in 2013 by Maobaobao, an independent fashion designer in China. He graduated from fashion design major of Milan Marangoni institute in 2013. In 2023 he was nomad China‘s highest designer award ”Golden Top Award“ as well as the Best Women’s Wear Designer Award (the youngest recipient of these esteemed accolades in the Chinese fashion industry). Through its brand, Maobaobao expresses the true nature of oriental women with the western-style tailoring of the times. Maobaobao combines the western design ideas, improves and re-creates the perfect combination of oriental aesthetics, and establishes the unique form of beauty expression of the brand: the elegant, confident and independent oriental female beauty.
PHAN DANG HOANG
A fashion brand founded by designer Phan Dang Hoang with inspirations from painting, architecture and east and west cultural interference. The brand's designs are boldly personal but always balance artistic concepts and high application. Phan Dang Hoang wants to connect the past and the present, bringing fashion values that bring the voice of the times, the breath of tradition, with durable materials and delicate treatments in every pattern. Therefore, each customer who experiences the product will be clothed with a meaningful message and find their aspirations through fashion so that they can speak for themselves. Phan Dang Hoang aims to become the first Vietnamese high-end brand to integrate long-standing traditional values into creative products with a sense of contemporary art.
ENTERPRISE JAPAN
Maurizio Croceri is the founder and ceo of Eli-Group and creative mind of Enterprise Japan. The sneaker brand inspired by Japanese culture is specialized in the production and distribution of high quality athletic footwear. Founded in 2016 together with Marco Marchi, the brand has Italian roots as it is produced in the Marche region, but also a strong international vocation, with a strong inspiration from Japan of the 70s and 80s. Enterprise Japan rides its values to offer a vision that respect this historic and social heritage but, at the same time, proposes something exciting and original, combined with the needs of contemporary production.
DEFAIENCE BY NICOLA BACCHILEGA
Defaïence was established in 2021 by Nicola Bacchilega, an innovative fashion designer who merges his background in ceramic sculpture with haute couture. Inspired by Faenza's rich ceramic heritage, Defaïence introduces avant-garde collections of jewelry and ready-to-wear apparel that redefine the boundaries of contemporary fashion. The brand's name is a fusion of "faience" (ceramic) and "defiance" (challenge), embodying Nicola's ethos of pushing artistic and societal boundaries. At the core of Defaïence's ethos is a dedication to creating timeless products that harmonize craftsmanship with innovation. Nicola's collections, reminiscent of the fluidity and elegance found in ceramics, are wearable sculptures designed to transcend traditional fashion norms.
