John Galliano is leaving the creative direction of Maison Margiela after ten years. Rumors were already circulating in recent months about the possible end of this arrangement.
“For now, I want to express my immense gratitude. I continue to atone, and I will never stop dreaming. Gratitude to Renzo Rosso, who, in inviting me to assume the position of Artistic Director in the house that Martin built, gave me the greatest, most precious gift, allowing me the opportunity to once again find my creative voice when I had become voiceless."
"My wings mended, ten years later, I am forever grateful for this safe space to create and his undying support. Gratitude to my fashion family for this life-saving creative moment and the place we have built together; to my teams, whose support has been tender and courageous and who have walked with me along this narrow pathway to the here and now. Gratitude to my atelier, my "A" team, devout in belief and dedicated to style and technique. Galliano said in a statement.
“Working with John was one of the most significant and impactful experiences of my life. He mentored me and showed me his vision, enriching me culturally and allowing me to bring some of that vision and culture to the rest of the Group. I feel privileged to have worked with two legends like Martin and John. Martin made this house a reference and an icon, John made it the most cutting-edge couture house in the world." Renzo Rosso said. “Together we have done something incredible that will be forever engraved in the history of fashion.”
