The Mongolian Wool and Cashmere Association, established in 1993, is a professional association with 154 members, which are world-known Mongolian cashmere brand companies.

The Association supports its members in all aspects like improving the competitiveness of national producers, creating a favorable business environment, enhancing the reputation of Mongolian wool and cashmere products, and making a brand-new product that is well known through the global market. Mwca has contributed significantly to the livelihoods of rural Mongolian communities while tackling climate change adaptation through sustainable practices in the textile value chain. The Association strictly focuses on the quality and standards for export products, adopting international standards, developing and certifying the production of environmentally friendly and socially responsible products, and officially obtaining the features and advantages of Mongolian cashmere in the world.

The association operates in the textile sector, with a vision of revolutionizing the cashmere and wool industries. Historically, the high volume of cashmere wasted during production created economic and environmental concerns. Mwca addresses these challenges by implementing a circular supply chain approach, recycling waste yarn and old garments to minimize waste and achieve zero waste production. This not only reduces the industry’s environmental footprint but also aligns with broader goals of climate change adaptation by promoting resource efficiency and reducing the need for excessive raw material extraction.

Mwca has been collaborating tightly with Italy since 2011 by signing the Memorandum of Understanding with the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (Acimit). Since then, the Association expanded its partnership with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the International Polytechnic for Industrial and Economic Development (PISIE), as well as strong collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia).

Mwca is now expanding its collaboration with Italy by adding a new partner which is Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (Cnmi). A selection of Mongolian companies are preparing to participate in the Fashion Hub static exhibition in the frame of the Milano Fashion Week between February 25 and March 02, 2025, at the Palazzo Giureconsulti.

The collaboration is supported also by the Italian Embassy in Mongolia, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Light Industry. For the project, Mwca selected 5 companies, including Top Donj LLC, Khanbogd LLC, Snow Fields LLC, Goyol LLC, and Negun Cashmere LLC. Company capacity, sales channel, production capacity, finished product quantity, export type, and activities in terms of sustainability are just some of the requirements that Mwca considered for selecting them to participate in this new step of collaboration.
