After stops in Paris at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and subsequently in London, Shanghai, Chengdu, New York, Doha, Tokyo, and Riyadh, the Dior retrospective goes to South Korea.
The “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition will be on display at Seoul’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the futuristic cultural hub designed by the late British architect Zaha Hadid, from April 19 to July 13, 2025.
The exhibition, curated by Florence Müller, celebrates more than seventy-five years of creative effervescence, conveyed through a wonderfully immersive scenographic narrative, conceived by Shohei Shigematsu, partner of global architectural firm OMA. It traces the history of Dior up to the present day, from the triumphant New Look to its contemporary reinventions, putting forward an unprecedented perspective on themes dear to the House: Christian Dior’s love of flowers and gardens, the excellence of the Ateliers, and the fascination for balls and exceptional parties. A journey sublimated by haute couture models and archive documents, forming dialogues with the works of leading Korean artists, such as HyunJoo Kim, Soo Sunny Park, and Zadie Xa.
Thus, for the first time, the space dedicated to the Lady Dior reveals the reinterpretations of this object of desire exclusively carried out by figures from the Korean art scene, nine for the Dior Lady Art project, and seventeen for the Lady Dior As Seen By concept; a profusion of spellbinding alliances boosting and prolonging the powerful ties forged between the House and this captivating country.
Room after room, the passion the founding-couturier cultivated for the art of perfume is transposed through enchanting bottles, portraits, and objects, along with dresses worn by the ambassadors of the House’s iconic fragrances, such as Rihanna for J’adore and Natalie Portman for Miss Dior.
The retrospective is not Dior’s first time in Seoul. In 2023, the brand brought its popular “Lady Dior Celebration” to Seoul Frieze, featuring 24 artists displayed inside its Seongsu-dong concept store. For the occasion, Dior will also renew its partnership with Ewha Womans University, Korea's first modern school for women, where it showed its pre-fall 2022 women’s collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
