In line with one of its missions, that of fostering the talent of emerging designers in the world of Italian fashion, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana announced that the Milano Moda Graduate project’s annual fashion show is being held on September 28, at 12.00 pm, at No. 6, Via Arcivescovo Calabiana, Milan.
Launched in 2015 and now in its 11th edition, the initiative addresses students at Italian fashion schools. 16 students will be showing their collections to an international panel of fashion experts who will assess progress made and goals attained by these young designers. The shortlisted students, competing in two categories: Fashion Design and YKK Italia, come from eight different Italian fashion schools.
The finalists in the Fashion Design category at this edition were selected by CNMI with assistance from a technical jury including Beppe Angiolini, honorary president of the Italian Fashion Buyers Chamber, founder of Sugar; Gianluca Cantaro, Fashion journalist, critic, and creative; Sabrina Scarpellini, co-founder and fashion director at Massimo Bonini Showroom; Sara Sozzani Maino, creative director of Fondazione Sozzani, International new talent and brands ambassador CNMI; Veronica Trezzi, marketing & communication YKK Italia; and Paola Arosio, head of sustainability and new brands, CNMI.
The 6 finalists in this category, who will each be producing a collection of 5 or 6 outfits, are: Antonio Contartese (Accademia Costume & Moda), Jacopo Cocci (Accademia Costume & Moda), Giulia Lin (Istituto Marangoni), Nicola Chiomento (Università IUAV, Venice), Annachiara Rabito (NABA, Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti), and Maria Palomba (NABA, Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti).
In the YKK Italia category - YKK Italia is Milano Moda Graduate’s Main Partner - 10 designers will be chosen from Italian fashion schools to create an outfit entirely dedicated to fastening accessories. The finalists in this category are: Martino Losco (NABA, Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti), Samuele Ruta (NABA, Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti), Valentina Allegri (Istituto Modartech), Jacopo Fe’ (Istituto Modartech), Melina Shibli (Istituto Marangoni), Xintong Li (Istituto Marangoni), Francesca Paola Di Fazio (Accademia Costume & Moda), Giacomo Sica (IED, Istituto Europeo di Design), Maddalena Maisto (Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera), and Claudia Romeo (Istituto Secoli).
Milano Moda Graduate is a unique project embracing all professions in the fashion system. At the heart of the project is the mentoring course. For the 8th time in fact, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana is offering students an educational course consisting of workshops and consulting on various themes ranging from sustainability and production techniques to international trends and markets, merchandising, and digital communication. Appointments include workshops with YKK Italia, which has organized a visit to its Vercelli production facility to explore its fastening accessories, and Shima Seiki Italia on the theme of knitwear and innovation. The mentoring phase will be followed by meetings with editorial teams at Vogue Italia and MF Fashion (CNMI media partners).
The production of a portrait video of each finalist in the Fashion Design category will be hosted at the iconic setting of the Roastery, a project focusing on Starbucks’ commitment to supporting the next generation of designers.
