From September 29 to October 7, Paris Fashion Week took over the French capital. Despite a rich runway schedule of debuts at prestigious maisons, Paris remains a hot spot for new brands to make their mark. Here Modem spotlights four brands showing for the first time on the women's calendar: the Belgian fashion designer Julie Kegels; the Parisian label Matières Fécales; the eco-conscious label Façon Jacmin and Meryll Rogge, the winner of the Andam Fashion Awards Grand Prize in 2025

JULIE KEGELS

Belgian designer Julie Kegels, a graduate of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, launched her eponymous label in 2024. Her Fall/Winter 2024 collection, 50/50, challenged contemporary luxury by exploring different female archetypes, putting elegance and playfulness on the scale. Each collection reflects Kegels’ vision: to challenge convention and create garments that resonate with the individuality of its wearers. The desire to defy conforming to a single archetype is a leitmotif that makes the brand stand out. Drawing from personal memories and modern influences, her work fuses timeless elegance with daring, forward-thinking elements.

MATIÈRES FÉCALES

Matières Fécales is a Parisian label that embodies the refined glamour and extreme individuality of its founders, Hannah Rose and Steven Raj. The Matières Fécales story begins in 2014, when the pair met and fell in love while studying fashion design in Montreal. Struggling with conformity in their respective environments, Hannah and Steven found freedom within each other to embrace their true identity. Since then, they have spent a decade pioneering their post-human aesthetic while cultivating a worldwide community that lives by their dogma of fearless expression. The unconventional brand name captures the beauty and grotesque of the human experience while challenging the glossy facade of a luxury-driven culture. Matières Fécales liberates those longing for freedom of expression through a singular vision of unleashed elegance and beauty.

FAÇON JACMIN

Façon Jacmin is a Belgian eco-conscious wear label, founded by the twins Jacmin in 2016. With their label, the twins aim to elevate individuals, helping them to express their boldness & confidence. Alexandra Jacmin is the creative director of the brand. She designs to explore the codes of seduction, and the alliance of masculinity & femininity. If denim remains her field of predilection, other fabrics are intertwined with it to present a playful silhouette that creates a wardrobe based on lifetime-lasting pieces, including upcycling practices.

MERYLL ROGGE

Meryll Rogge is a ready-to-wear label based in Belgium, founded in 2020 by its eponymous designer, Meryll Rogge. A contemporary wardrobe infused by surprising associations, the brand offers classic and sturdy pieces revisited with a sense of unexpected beauty. Drawing simultaneously from the radical simplicity of menswear and the exquisite sophistication and coqueterrie of eveningwear, Meryll Rogge seeks to establish a joyfully ambivalent style, one made of fortuitous connections and pragmatic sartorial decisions.
