The work of Riccardo Goti, a Florentine visionary creator of bespoke jewelry that is truly wearable art, is the culmination of passion, dedication, talent, and experimentation. A journey of emotions, a healthy dose of whimsy, and intense craftsmanship. A unique, contemporary project that transcends convention, with an aesthetic shaped by a focus on essential lines and updated with a whimsical touch that lends it a modern edge.
We asked Riccardo Goti some questions, and he told us about the opening of his new showroom in Milan and the inspiration behind his creations.
Modem: You recently launched "Inside Goti" in Milan, a universe that merges imagination and expression. How did this project come about, and what kind of relationship do you hope to establish with the public?
Riccardo Goti: Inside Goti is a space where I can express my creative vision without limits, jewelry, fragrances, design, and fashion. A space in which to conceive installations, painting, sculpture, photography, video, and projections - anything that can represent a creative form. During Milan Fashion Week, Inside Goti will also be our showroom. My vision is for an "open," experimental space, a place for meeting and discussion where everyone can feel part of the project. I love connecting with people who experience the creative process with sensitivity and uniqueness. Those who hold fashion in their soul as a profound meaning, as an art form, can only be a positive impulse, especially for my visionary spirit. In short, a place to promote and share artistic activities, interests, and knowledge. A Makerspace, a Community Hub.
Modem: You call yourself a craftsman, but you create jewelry with a unique design that has created a new aesthetic dimension. What concepts and visions do Goti jewelry convey to the wearer? What kind of personality do they express?
Riccardo Goti: An inseparable union between dress, jewelry, and soul. By nature, artisanal craftsmanship is imperfect; the human hand creates differences, making each piece unique and enhancing its value. The alchemy of fabrics and small, precious elements, leather cuts with metal fusions, the delicacy of threads sartorially applied with the strength of hand-worked silver, represent the aesthetic dimension of my jewelry. The cuts, colors, and finishes of each piece are different; the story of each object is unique due to the manual workmanship and the spirit it embodies. Fortunately, today's world, with all its flaws, also has a great virtue: the ability to express one's individual personality without constraints, following one's own instincts and emotions. Wearing a Goti piece of jewelry, which changes with time, varies in appearance, and adapts to the elements around us, creates the uniqueness and personality of the wearer, becoming a part of that person. I believe that this aspect establishes an almost unbreakable bond with those who experience the same empathy as I.
Modem: In Tuscany, where you were born and raised, nature is also part of the history of art. How did your interest in jewelry arise? What references inspire and guide you in the creative process?
Riccardo Goti: My origins are present in every one of my creations, because living every moment in contact with such beauty can only make you sensitive to it. Being from Arezzo, my roots are deep in the Etruscan culture, a people masterful in metalworking, who produced unique masterpieces in the history of art. The desire to create my own collection began to manifest itself through my approach to the world of accessories and jewelry; discovering the secrets of metal production fueled my desire to realize my own world. Plastic skills, creativity, the basics of sculpture studied in school, and the experiences I've acquired over the years gave me a strong initial motivation. The ultimate condition for bringing the project to life was the courage to dare, to live by emotions, to pursue new ideas with boldness and curiosity, to challenge oneself with the desire to create unprecedented scenarios. Thus, in September 2000, Goti, my unique universe, was born. I'm a craftsman with my own aesthetic sense; The daily grind of my work has always been a pursuit of excellence; it's the material that inspires me and the desire to create and experiment continually. In my world, boldness and curiosity prevail over rationality.
Modem: How are the jewels made in Goti's workshop? What is the reason for Goti's success?
Riccardo Goti: Tools are ancestral: fire, anvil, hammer, blades. When we work, we still seem like Homo habilis. After more than twenty years and a global pandemic, I was looking for the collaboration of an entrepreneur who was an integral part of the Goti project, a highly motivated industrialist who, by sharing his wealth of knowledge, skills, and aptitude, along with my creativity, could bring tangible results like Inside Goti and future projects. I was fortunate to meet Massimo Anselmi, an enlightened person with a remarkable aesthetic sense; I dare say I draw a significant comparison with Adriano Olivetti. In Massimo Anselmi, I find the same awareness, passion, and courage for the "Responsibility of Beauty," of this, I am certain.
Modem: Several years ago, you launched the Goti perfumes, for which you were the alchemist. The content and packaging are consistent with your jewelry. A perfume that feels like a medieval tunic. Can you tell us about this experience?
Riccardo Goti: Alchemic is a wonderful term. I created a line of perfumes called Alchemico Goti, but I still have to find the quintessence! Perhaps it's life itself, the most intimate, secret, mysterious. Coming from the world of fashion, I've always conceived of a brand in its entirety. I started with my first bracelet, along with my first perfume (Black), to give you an idea of the importance I've always given to fragrances.

My personal desire to experiment and combine different elements has led me to create perfumes simply and naturally. Here too, I've maintained the craftsmanship that characterizes my work, searching for essences to incorporate with my olfactory perception. In creating perfumes, I've adopted the same approach I use in realizing jewelry: assembling fragrances is a bit like matching materials; it's a very personal process. The idea of the perfume "Worn Like a Tunic" is fantastic! I'd also like to think of my perfume as a potion, an invisible vessel for the soul that creates a spiritual aura of personality, strength, and self-esteem. Perfume is pure magic.
