Palazzo Reale: Bosch

Exhibitions
October 04 2022 -> February 26 2023

For the first time, the city of Milan, under the artistic direction of Palazzo Reale and Castello Sforzesco, pays tribute to the great Flemish genius and to his success in southern Europe, with a brand new exhibition project revolving around a fascinating thesis: Bosch is the emblem of an “alternative” Renaissance, which is far from the Renaissance governed by the myth of classicism and is evidence of the existence of a plurality of Renaissances, with its art centres scattered throughout Europe.

Jheronimus Bosch (1453 - 1516) is known worldwide for his language, made of dreamlike visions and peculiar worlds, fires, monstrous creatures, and fantastic figures.

The exhibition itinerary encompasses a hundred works of art including paintings, sculptures, tapestries, engravings, bronzes, and ancient volumes, including some 30 rare and precious objects from wunderkammerns.

The exhibition “Bosch and Another Renaissance” is curated by Bernard Aikema, previously a professor of Modern Art History at the University of Verona, Fernando Checa Cremades, professor of Art History at the Complutense University of Madrid and former director of the Prado Museum and Claudio Salsi, the director of Castello Sforzesco, the Archaeological and Historical Museums and professor of history of engraving at the Catholic University of Milan.

Exhibitions
October 04 2022 -> February 26 2023

The first retrospective in Italy dedicated to Max Ernst (1891-1976) German painter, sculptor, poet and theorist of art, then naturalized American and French. Over 400 works including paintings, sculptures, drawings, collages, jewels and illustrated books from museums, foundations and private collections, in Italy and abroad.

As in a great Wunderkammer, and in analogy with the universe of Max Ernst, the exhibition and the catalogue, challenge visitors to try their hand at fascinating and intriguing games of perception between amazement and wonder, where logic and formal harmony go hand in hand to impenetrable enigmas, where works, techniques and constellations of symbols lead beyond painting.

Fabbrica del Vapore: Andy Warhol. La pubblicità e la forma

Exhibitions
October 22 2022 -> March 26 2023

Curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and with the collaboration of Edoardo Falcioni, the exhibition Andy Warhol. La pubblicità e la forma recounts the talent of one of the most influential artists of all time with 300 works. The exhibition aims to reconstruct all the historical periods in which the artist, through his revolution, was able to innovate the history of twentieth century art, venturing into various fields such as fashion, music and entrepreneurship.

The exhibition will range from the 50s, which will consecrate him above all as a fine and highly respected designer, to the 60s, one of the artist's most prolific periods, who will become a real "social commentator", portraying icons (such as the mythical Campbell's Soup), fame (Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe) and disasters (from the faces of Jackie Kennedy marked for her husband's funeral to a 1970s Car Crash); from the 70s, in which he will become The society artist (great attention will be dedicated to the dualism of the sociological analysis of Warhol's work) to the 80s, in which the artist, presenting himself to the general public as the spiritual father of a new generation of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, will create new symbolisms, experiments and tributes to the past.

Inside the exhibition there will be original paintings, unique works, historical serigraphs, drawings, polaroids, photographs and other real memorabilia such as the original covers designed and autographed by Warhol.

Mudec: Robert Capa

November 11 2022 -> March 19 2023

On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Robert Capa’s birth (October 22nd, 1913) Mudec pays tribute to the great Hungarian photographer with a solo exhibition encompassing his major war and travel reportages. A journey through Capa’s 20-year career, which unfolded during some of the crucial moments in the history of the 20th century.

The exhibition was made possible thanks to a collaboration with the Magnum Photos agency and it brings together an exceptional body of photographs: more than 80 original prints, some of which have never been shown in an Italian exhibition before, accompanied by some documents from the Magnum’s collection dating back to the same period.

The exhibition includes seven sections and a diachronic itinerary through the most important black-and-white reportages by Robert Capa, from the beginning of his career in Berlin and Paris (1932-1936) to the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939); from the Japanese invasion of China (1938) to World War II (1941-1945); from his travel reportage in the Soviet Union (1947) to the one about the birth of Israel (1948-1950), and, finally, his last assignment as a war photographer in Indochina (1954).

“Recycling Beauty” is an unprecedented study dedicated entirely to the reuse of Greek and Roman antiquities in post-antique contexts, from the Middle Ages to the Baroque era. The exhibition is curated by Salvatore Settis and Anna Anguissola with Denise La Monica, designed by Rem Koolhaas/Oma.

The underlying premise of this research is the need to think of the classical not simply as a legacy of the past, but also as a vital element with the power to affect our present and future. Through an innovative interpretive approach and an experimental exhibition format, ancient heritage, in particular Greco-Roman heritage, becomes, in Settis’ words, “a key that provides access to the multiplicity of cultures in the contemporary world.”

Highlighting the importance of fragments, reuse, and interpretation, “Recycling Beauty” helps to consider the past as an unstable phenomenon in constant evolution. The exhibition presents over fifty highly representative artworks from international and Italian public collections and museums.

#OneLove exhibition by the artist Norma Jeane is a project curated by Katya Inozemtseva.
#OneLove is a plasticine parallelepiped that evokes the rainbow flag; inside, however, it hides a black and white intersection, as to acknowledge and celebrate the complexity of human being. It is a collective work in progress, which changes in time and space thanks to the continuous enjoyment of the public, who interacts with it by modelling and reshaping the material it is made of, throughout the duration of the installation.
