Dyptique: “Immobile Journeys – The Grand Tour”

Exhibitions
September 10 2021 -> October 24 2021

To mark its 60th birthday, Diptyque celebrates the passion for art and for perfume with the exhibition Immobile Journeys. Immobile Journeys explores the extraordinary polysemy of ‘travel’ in the age of international nomadism and the period following the world’s sudden descent into global immobility through to its apparent reopening. The pausing of the possibility of travel and the reappearance of land borders have failed to dampen the universal desire for discovery, a change of scene and the chance to escape, or our thirst to experience other cultures and realities. In this show, curated by Jérôme Sans, nine contemporary artists present their vision of the journey through their interpretations of diptyque’s iconic destinations. A journey marked by fragrance, from France to Japan, via Italy, Greece and Lebanon.

“Immobile Journeys – The Grand Tour”,
from September 10 to October 24, 2021,
at the Poste du Louvre, Paris.

Founded by Condé Nast in 1920, Vogue Paris is the oldest French fashion magazine still published today, and the only title in the group that bears the name of a city rather than a country.
The exhibition illustrates the magazine’s ability to create, to adapt and to anticipate over the past 100 years. Vogue Paris 1920-2020 traces the history of the magazine through the editors-in-chef whose editorial and artistic choices have made it what it is: from Michel de Brunhoff, via Edmonde Charles-Roux, Francine Crescent and Carine Roitfeld, to Emmanuelle Alt.

For Vogue Paris 1920-2020 around 400 items have been brought together, mainly from the magazine’s archives – photographs, illustrations, magazines, documents and films – as well as more than fifteen haute couture and prêt-à-porter models.

The exhibition retraces the history of cinema through its most legendary costumes, in a journey imagined by the cinephile couturier Jean Paul Gaultier
The statuesque outfits of Marilyn Monroe, the little black dress of Audrey Hepburn, the masculine wardrobe of Marlene Dietrich, the bespoke tuxedo of James Bond, the leotard of Superman… these iconic pieces were designed by great couturiers. Jean Paul Gaultier himself strongly contributed to the history of the cinema by collaborating with some of the greatest directors. The costumes of The Bad Education by Pedro Almodovar, Closer to Heaven by Tonie Marshall in which he dresses Catherine Deneuve, The Fifth Element by Luc Besson are to his credit.
The CinéMode exhibition is accompanied by a programme commensurate with the event. Screenings of cult films, The Rocky Horror Picture Show by Jim Sharman and Falbalas by Jacques Becker, among the favourite films of Jean Paul Gaultier.
