Colors, Places, Faces is a composite and multifaceted narrative that reflects a unique mix of art, journalism and storytelling through a kaleidoscope of different visions. Curated by Giorgio Armani in collaboration with Magnum Photos, the exhibition offers an eclectic perspective as perceived by ten international photographers and their respective understanding of photography.

Some of these artists are still active today, others have passed away, but they are united by a desire to explore reality, translating suggestions and emotions into images. The spectrum is broad: from Christopher Anderson’s China, focusing on people’s faces rather than architecture, to Olivia Arthur’s Dubai, seen through the eyes of a castaway who returns after fifty years to a city that has grown from a village into a megalopolis; from Morocco by Bruno Barbey, a long tale of a country that has escaped modernity, to Werner Bischof’s New York, portrayed in color shots that immortalise its dynamism; from architecture seen as socio-political space by René Burri, to coasts seen as borders between land and water by Harry Gruyaert; from Martin Parr’s biting dissection of English life, to Tokyo and Venice captured by Gueorgui Pinkhassov through stolen shots and unexpected angles; from Iran depicted in its day-to-day life by Newsha Tavakolian, to the saturated colors of Latin America and the Caribbean as seen by Alex Webb.

Exhibitions

The Fondazione Sozzani will present in September the exhibition "The Witness, Climate Change" featuring a reportage of about twenty large-format images by Max Vadukul devoted entirely to the environment and the effects of climate change. Between 2018 and 2020 Vadukul documented in Mumbai and other Indian metropolises, some of the world's most polluted areas with a mesmerizing and thought-provoking gaze that tells the truth and asks questions.

The first thing one will notice in the images of The Witness - Climate Change is a large shiny metallic orb sphere. This silent monolithic object appears in each image: floating above toxic landfills, hovering about fields of garbage, flying amid bustling and polluting traffic What exactly is this menacing orb? For Vadukul it is a kind of cosmic observer, a witness watching man's devastating impact on the environment and the effects of climate change. At the same time, perhaps the orb represents a different future and the possibility to do better.

Max Vadukul is one of the very few photographers of his generation to continue the tradition of artistic reportage photography. His projects are often related to naturalistic and cultural aspects that are open to multi-layered readings. His images, perfect in terms of formal creativity and technical skill, are always visually structured as a mediating element between the identification of a narrative theme and his very personal creative language.

Fondazione Sozzani: Bogner. Seen by Hans Feurer

For nearly 50 years, the work of legendary photographer Hans Feurer has shaped the visual language of the Athluxury brand Bogner. His iconic images are part of the canon of fashion photography and have helped establish the genre of sports fashion.
To kick off Milan Fashion Week this fall, a selection of approximately 30 partly large-scale works by the veteran master will be on display at Fondazione Sozzani and an exclusive exhibition catalog will be published.
His intimate relationship with nature and the mountains is as evident in Feurer’s works as is his particularly refined understanding of staged looks.“Hans Feurer is not only an outstanding photographer but also a great fashion connoisseur,” says Zurich art director Beda Achermann, who curated the exhibition in Milan and accompanied Feurer on many shoots.
Hans Feurer shot the first pictures for Bogner in the 1970s, staging the models with breathtaking grandeur in front of dramatic alpine backdrops, emphasizing the dynamics of skiing just as impressively as the individual strength of women.
