Musée Yves Saint Laurent: Yves Saint Laurent – Shapes & Forms
See on Map
Exhibitions
June 09 2023 -> January 14 2024
*
The exhibition Yves Saint Laurent–Shapes & Forms, displays the couturier’s modern and enduring vision. Through a fascinating spatial arrangement, the artist Claudia Wieser engenders a dialogue with textile pieces and graphic art from the museum’s collections. The exhibition presents some forty models by Yves Saint Laurent, both haute couture and ready-to-wear garments, accessories and sketches, which resonate with decors and work by the German artist. This original approach securely places the couturier’s genius in the context of our own times.

Throughout his career, the legendary grand couturier Yves Saint Laurent never ceased reinventing forms. Already in 1958, when he was artistic director at Christian Dior, he affirmed his modernist approach with his “Trapeze” collection. Its iconic geometric silhouette has gone down in the annals of fashion.

Beginning in the 1960s, his creations reflected as treamlined cut, well-defined lines and rich colors. His works were influenced by the artistic trends of the time–simple and geometric abstraction, constructivism and concrete art–whose many movements mirror the multi-faceted talent of Yves Saint Laurent.

Paying particular attention to color and form, the German artist Claudia Wieser stages a rich array of forms. Influenced by the intuitive and spiritual work of Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, the artist explores modernist-inspired geometric constructions. Recognized for her immersive and contemplative installations, Wieser offers us a totally immersive experience. For the Yves Saint Laurent–Shapes & Forms project, Claudia Wieser presents several of her own works, some of which have never been exhibited before.

Exhibitions
September 20 2023 -> April 07 2024

Looking forward to the 2024 Olympics, the Musée des Arts décoratifs (Paris) presents Fashion and Sports: From one Podium to Another, an exhibition on the fascinating interconnections between fashion and sports from the Ancient World to the present day. This major exhibition illuminates the shared social concerns and focus on the body of the apparently unrelated worlds of fashion and sports. 450 items of clothing, accessories, photographs, sketches, magazines, posters, paintings, sculptures and videos illustrate the evolution of sportswear and its influence on contemporary fashions. Jean Patou, Jeanne Lanvin, Gabrielle Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli were some of the interwar fashion design pioneers who found inspiration in the world of sports. The exhibition shows how they made sportswear fashionable in a wider range of contexts, including in everyday wardrobes. The importance of comfortable clothes is a recurrent theme, explaining why tracksuits and sneakers are now ubiquitous on the streets and on the catwalk, from Balenciaga to Off- White. The exhibition was curated by Sophie Lemahieu, Keeper of the museum’s post-1947 Fashion and Textiles Collections. The colourful and lively exhibition design is by BGC Studio.

FabriX - Weaving a New Reality for Fashion

The future of fashion will not be sewn with threads and textiles, but woven by pixels and programmes. As technology continues to bring down barriers and distance, digital fashion presents designers with boundless freedom for creativity, instant global visibility and opportunities to set the runway ablaze with truly imaginative, trend-leading styles.

‘FabriX’ is Hong Kong's pioneering digital fashion initiative, presented by PMQ, supported by Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the Lead Sponsor, to anticipate this new reality. The pilot programme is founded to nurture and prepare young fashion designers from Hong Kong to be future-ready as they navigate the new frontier brought about by digital fashion and the Metaverse. At the same time, the programme equips designers to capture opportunities from new business models and new revenue streams made possible by digital fashion marketplaces and platforms globally and in Hong Kong.

Beyond bringing 12 units of new design talent to the fore and providing them with the necessary support, ‘FabriX’ exposes the participants to collaborations with a community of digital artists, technical experts, animators, social media and digital retail platforms, the new ecosystem that breathes life into digital fashion. This cross-pollination of ideas, knowledge and skillsets is essential to spark the development of a thriving digital fashion creative cluster in the city, building Hong Kong as the creative capital of Asia.

The Ukrainian Women's Fashion Industry Alliance (Uwfia), founded in Kyiv by five Ukrainian designers of the brands Nadya Dzyak, Chereshnivska, Grie, Sayya, and Tamar Keburia, will present SS24 collections through a special event with the support of the Usaid Competitive Economy of Ukraine Program.

This project pays special attention to female entrepreneurship and leadership, aimed at popularizing the works and ideas of Ukrainian designers. Its main goal is to support women in the fashion industry, regardless of their place of residence, age or field of activity. The project is based on shared dreams, aspirations, and victories.

The new collections will feature upcycle models made of recycled denim, pieces made of hand-woven fabrics, and transparent dresses with prints by Ukrainian artist Polina Rayko. Vibrant David Hockney arts embodied in prints and colors address popular culture, while various manipulations with fabric textures and forms, as well as bags that are produced in a studio in Kyiv using family techniques, ensure that unique craftsmanship is present in every detail.
