As the grand prix winner of the JFW Next Brand Award, mukcyen, selected through JFWO’s official brand support program, will kick off the season with a runway presentation on the opening day of Fashion Week.

mukcyen is a coined word derived from the designer’s surname in Chinese, “mù cūn.”Intentionally abstract and devoid of inherent meaning, the name reflects a sincere aspiration: to imbue it with singular significance through the creation of history and culture of her own making. Focusing on the complexities of human nature and the fluidity of time, the brand draws upon an intense emotional pull toward death, born from a deep belief in the vitality of life. Incorporating cultural references such as cult cinema and literature, mukcyen constructs a unique vision of humanity. This vision manifests as garments that explore, express, and seek the essence of human connection and the ways in which relationships take form.

PH MODE x TYO by MFF

The Manila Fashion Festival (MFF) has been the Philippines’ premier fashion week since 2014. More than just a runway platform, MFF has evolved into a vital hub for fashion business and creative exchange. This September 2025, a new chapter of Manila Fashion Forward (MFF), a reimagined platform for global collaboration, comes alive.

This season, MFF presents PH MODE x TYO under the theme “Beyond the Loom”, celebrating the dialogue between art, technology, and tradition. The showcase features Philippine textiles reimagined through the lens of emerging Filipino visual artist Maria Angelica Tan, realized with Japan’s cutting-edge textile printing technology by Seiko Epson, and transformed into contemporary collections by three emerging Filipino designers, Alodiacecilia, Archives, and Maison Métisse, together with rising Japanese brand Uttrykk.

This runway presentation is proudly organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Tokyo, strengthening the bridge between the Philippines and Japan in fashion and the creative industries, with the support of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)’s Malikhaing Pinoy (Creative Philippines) Program and the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP).
