Tagliatore finds its origins in Martina Franca, a small town in the south of Italy, the heart of the Apulian textile district. It’s here that the company, which is famous the world over, is based. The story begins with Vito Lerario, Pino’s grandfather, the current creative director of the brand, who opened in the 1940s a little bespoke shoe firm near Martina Franca, and he was so good at carving and sewing shoe uppers that thanks to his skill he was named Tagliatore.
Francesco, one of the twelve children of Vito, immediately developed a passion for the craft, starting to handle fabrics and devote himself to tailoring. He opened Confezioni Lerario in 1984, a business reality that worked originally for other companies. But his mastery in making clothes won the admiration in 1988 of the director of Tim Burton’s Batman, who, struck by a cut of a jacket he made, decided to make him realize the outfits for the film. From southern Italy to Hollywood the step was short, and Lerario got an international success. In 1999 Pino launched the first collections with the Tagliatore logo.
Today the company has come to the second generation with a production process 100% made in Italy. The firm is run by Pino, Vito, Teresa, and Luciano Lerario, each of them with a definite role: Vito and Luciano are responsible for the production, their sister Teresa cares about the administrative-financial part, Pino is the creative mind of the brand following the project and production phases. Tagliatore has evolved significantly over the years, becoming a brand that is esteemed for its excellent savoir-faire.

Born in 1965, Pino inherited his passion and savoir-faire from his father, perfecting himself later on design and modeling at the Istituto Secoli in Milan. In the family atelier, he learned the research and knowledge of fabrics, recognized as distinctive features of the brand.
Today, thanks to his creative intuition and the most advanced technologies, Pino can develop new patterns and materials created ad hoc, making each Tagliatore garment unique and timeless.

“I always start from places and landscapes, and I feel very privileged because every morning when I work I am surrounded by something mystical: the panorama of the Itria Valley. I want to convey the same emotions I feel when I create my collections. I like to think of myself as a complete creative director. I start from the drawing, I make clothing pattern on myself and then I sew and wear it. And at the end, I imagine the man who wears Tagliatore, his lifestyle and his passions,” said Pino.
Among the most important moments that marked Pino’s professional career was the meeting with Nino Cerruti, one of the greatest creators of fabrics and arbiter elegantiarum, who have appreciated his passion and the excellent work done in Tagliatore.
