The Modem's Highlights

June 15, 2022 – Ann Demeulemeester at the Stazione Leopolda
Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester is the Guest of Honor of this new edition of Pitti Uomo, with a special project dedicated to her and the brand that bears her name at the Stazione Leopolda.
For Ann Demeulemeester, fashion is a form of communication. Her complex language of contrasts covers a whole gamut of emotions. The tension is highly poetic - her clothes reveal many layers of ‘’soul’’. They are simple, the way a knife is simple. Serious but never severe, meticulous but experimental, strong but always sensual. Known for her elegant tailoring and dark yet glamorous aesthetic, she created a serene and darkly romantic world with an intriguing mix of edgy rebellion and sophistication.
Ann Demeulemeester graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1981 and from 1982 onwards she participated to a series of contests and fashion events with her first collections. She launched her eponymous label and her first commercial collection in 1987 with her longstanding creative partner Patrick Robyn. Her first fashion show in Paris in 1992 has put her immediately on the international fashion map. Her intelligent approach to fashion rises above trends and offers a continually evolving system of dressing with integrity and fierce independence. Ann Demeulemeester left her label in 2013 and ever since has experimented with a variety of new expressive formats. In 2020, the Ann Demeulemeester label was purchased by Claudio Antonioli, Milan entrepreneur and talent scouter.

June 14, 2022 – Grace Wales Bonner at Palazzo Medici Riccardi
Wales Bonner is the Guest Designer of Pitti Immagine Uomo no.102. The designer of English-Jamaican origins will present, in a premiere showing in Florence, the Spring-Summer 2023 collection of her eponymous label Wales Bonner, with a fashion show-event at Palazzo Medici Riccardi.
Wales Bonner proposes a distinct notion of cultural luxury that infuses European heritage with an Afro Atlantic spirit.
Launched by Grace Wales Bonner following her graduation from Central Saint Martins in 2014, the label is informed by broad cultural research and embraces a multiplicity of perspectives. Established as a menswear brand, Wales Bonner’s soulful tailoring soon expanded to womenswear. Grace Wales Bonner has received numerous awards including Emerging Menswear Designer at the British Fashion Awards (2015), the LVMH Young Designer Prize (2016), Winner of the British Fashion Council/ Vogue Designer Fashion Fund (2019) and CFDA International Men's Designer of the Year (2021). In 2019, Grace was invited by Maria Grazia Chiuri to collaborate with Dior to re-interpret the house's New Look silhouette for its Resort 2020 collection. In the same year, she curated an institutional exhibition, A Time for New Dreams, at Serpentine Galleries, London. June 15, 2022 – Sapio inside the Spazio Discovery
Designer Giulio Sapio presenta the SS23 collection of the brand that bears his name inside the Spazio Discovery, a gallery in the Pitti Immagine head offices just a few meters away from the Fortezza da Basso, place of high symbolic value for Pitti and Florence that hosted the first contemporary art installations of the Fondazione Discovery.
The Sapio special installation makes the suit the absolute protagonist, our second skin, a skin we choose, through which we portray ourselves and which satisfies all our senses. An idea of a wardrobe that is timeless because it is designed to evolve over time, in which the cut and the processing come to life in the material and are translated into garments dominated by a pure formal equilibrium. An equilibrium that knows no gender, but accompanies the body in the details and the proportions, highlighting its unique and unrepeatable grace. For this reason, the wardrobe is identical, esthetically, for males and females.
