On the occasion of the reinstallation of the Textile Room, Palazzo Madama will present an exhibition on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, exploring the deep material and symbolic connection between white, the natural color of silk and linen, and women.

Through a selection of fifty textile artifacts from Palazzo Madama’s collections, six restored for the occasion and fourteen displayed for the first time, curator Paola Ruffino guides visitors through a centuries-long history. From delicate embroidery and intricate lacework to the most iconic white garment, the wedding dress, the exhibition traces the evolution of women’s artistry in textiles.

Medieval linen embroidery, needle and bobbin lace, and white-on-white embroidery exemplify the skill and creativity of women who have shaped these masterpieces. This subtle yet enduring bond spans centuries, highlighting women as creators, keepers of tradition, and refined patrons and users of fashion textiles and accessories.
