Rico Puhlmann (1934–1996) was a leading international fashion photographer whose work helped define the visual language of fashion photography over the last four decades of the 20th century. This exhibition honors Puhlmann’s career, focusing on his contributions to fashion magazines from the 1950s through the 1990s, while also exploring broader aspects of fashion history, photography, the press, and culture.

The exhibition offers an in-depth look at Puhlmann’s drawn and photographic oeuvre spanning a 40-year career. He began as an illustrator before becoming a celebrated fashion photographer, working for prominent German magazines such as Brigitte, petra, and Constanze, as well as internationally for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, and GQ. Some of the era’s most sought-after models, including Gloria Friedrich, Gitta Schilling, Cheryl Tiegs, Jerry Hall, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell, posed for him. His photographs graced countless magazine covers and filled multiple consecutive double-page spreads.
