This major exhibition dedicated to Ana Mendieta presents many of her iconic works alongside newly remastered films, early paintings, and late sculptural pieces, many of which have never been seen in the UK. Extending beyond the gallery walls, the show reflects Mendieta’s profound engagement with the natural world.
Mendieta is best known for her Silueta Series, which explores the presence and absence of the human body through natural materials such as fire, water, and flowers. These ephemeral works were documented through photography and film.
Active in the 1970s and early 1980s, the Cuban-born American artist explored pressing themes of displacement and identity, questions that remain highly relevant today.
The exhibition, the first in-depth UK presentation of her work in over a decade, highlights Mendieta’s trailblazing practice, reinforcing her status as one of the most significant artists of the 20th century.
