Nine Journeys Through Time. Alcantara and Art in the Apartment of the Prince, the third episode in a cycle of shows which since 2016 has explored the surprising qualities of Alcantara as a material for artistic creation, transforming the spaces of the Apartment of the Prince into gateways onto the elsewhere of art.

In this exhibition, offering an exceptional combination of talents, ten contemporary artistic outlooks are brought together, expressing their visions in a range of languages, from painting to fashion, from digital design to music. They have drawn inspiration from the specifics of a unique medium, and have observed Alcantara® in all its various declinations and potential, exploring its invention and production processes, working with technicians and experts, be it along independent paths or through innovative collaboration projects.

The ten artists called upon to interpret nine different space-time expeditions launched by Alcantara from the Apartment of the Prince are: Aaajiao, Andrea Anastasio, Caterina Barbieri, Krijn De Koning, Li Shurui, Chiharu Shiota, Esther Stocker and Iris Van Herpen, Zeitguised, Zimoun.

Once again, on the occasion of the cosmopolitan Milan Design Week 2018, Seletti and Studio Job join forces to enrich their brand BLOW with a new product. BLOW is a family of objects with a total "pop" design mood funded last year as a real design brand by the will of Stefano Seletti, Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel: a project that points to that idea of democratic design that has always distinguished Seletti.
On show at the Salone del Mobile in Rho Fiera and at the Seletti Flagship Store in Corso Garibaldi, the new lamp Cora with its unique “street style” and a hit of “cartoon” mood.

Cora is the epitome of the old street lamps, the gas lights which could be found in the streets at the beginning of the 20th century. Studio Job reinterprets the aesthetics of these memorable street furniture to make it suitable for the contemporary homes.

Humanity in nature, nature in humanity. This is the theme of Design Week 2018 at the Cascina Cuccagna. The topic will be explored with a series of exhibitions, meetings and workshops.

Dealing with "things from nature" means using cultural tools to explore the relationship between humans and the environment, looking boldly at the stories we have invented to deny or celebrate this relationship.

The intention is to use the methodological tools of design to reconstruct the terms with which nature manifests itself outside and within human beings.

The idea or promise underlying the choice of theme is to construct a sort of secular outlook and vision in order to grasp new opportunities and perhaps to bring the urban dweller/urban nature dyad back to the forefront of a debate about creating a more serene co-existence free from a sense of guilt.

This exhibition presents a selection of works by the students of the Design System of the Politecnico di Milano: School, Department and POLI.design. These are projects developed by young designers during their careers, courses and masters. It is a reasoned synthesis that combines method and creativity, which tells the development of a competence and transmits the constancy with which the teachers accompany the students of the school refining their talents.

Each project represents the necessary mediation between the disciplines, the tools and the attitudes that guide the training of future designers within an academic path. Layouts and prototypes, videos and texts invite to the attention, to the listening, to the deepening of ideas that are ready to face the challenges of contemporary reality. Also for this reason, the exhibition is not set up in a location but in the spaces of the School, the daily theater of the confrontation between generations, cultures, knowledge, communities and values that the Politecnico di Milano embodies, defends and shares.

5 architecture firms and 5 handles for Dnd

A project curated by Giulio Iacchetti on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Dnd. To involve architects who had never – or seldom – focused on product design, inviting them to create a handle: this was the challenge suggested to five architecture firms with an Italian background very active on an international level. Stefano Boeri Architetti, Alfonso Femia, Maurizio Varratta, Cino Zucchi, 967Arch designed five new products that reflect five different ways of thinking about a single design theme. Set-up by Francesco Librizzi.

On the occasion of the 90-year anniversary of Domus magazine, the Fondazione Sozzani will present a selection of pieces by Gio Ponti, drawn from the Domus Archives.

The exhibition recounts the architect's multifaceted production and approach to the arts, expressed through the pages of the magazine he oversaw as editor-in-chief for over 40 years from 1928 to 1979, with an interruption from 1941 to 1947.

The exhibition includes photographic images, Domus magazine covers and a selection of objects that together cover 50 years of his work. A series of images highlights the architect's alphabet: the combination and comparison between objects, drawings, and architectural elements show his design approach, in particular the expressive potential of the materials that he embraces in every sector, from craftsmanship to architecture.

Monday April 16th, 2018 at 7.00 pm, to celebrate Milan's 2018 Salone del Mobile, the Fondazione Sozzani presents “con-tatto”, a word pun between contact and touch – with a discussion about Transversal Design as expressed in a wide range of design fields. Present will be Flaviano Celaschi, Professor of Industrial Design at University of Bologna, Walter De Silva, Designer and Founder of WDS-Conceptdesign and Luciano Galimberti, President ADI, Industrial Design Association. Andrea Branzi - IMPRESSIONS

A sheet oh cellulose paste (extracted by birch and poplar trunks), ivory color, lightly foamy, but delicate and stiff as cardboard, can be pressed and become a building material, with bas-relieves of decorative figures and signs.
This is the origin of objects that look like a stone architecture, the solemnity and mystery of a primitive wall, while they are actually just empty boxes, paradokes of our skill to play with the identity of the world, transforming paer in marble, marble in plastic, wood in metal.
This is actually the role of Art, Poetry, Philosophy, so apparently useless and fragile, but able to resist as the only witnesses of lost Empires and Civilizations .
A world of empty boxes is maybe better of the stone monuments, destined to become ruins, swept away by their solid body.
The space invaded by pare crystals, as confused thoughts, is increasingly emptied up to fully make the mind free from the past, and go back to a germinal condition to set new theorems and temporary projects.

CARLO MOLLINO, SIGNORA LB, Fotografie e Polaroid, 1940-1960

Galleria Rossella Colombari will dedicate an entire section to Carlo Mollino's photographic production: a collection of polaroids and photographs, dating from the second half of the 1940's through the end of the 1960's. A didactic itinerary composed of photographs which have never been exhibited before and which narrate the Turinese architect's multifaceted activity. In this context, Mollino's photographs will be cradled by furniture pieces of his peers: architects such as Gio Ponti, Franco Albini and Ico Parisi.

This ambience, in a call to the cult of Mollino and his love of the female figure, is inspired by women's magazines of the period, the first Domus and Casabella magazines, which promoted the progressive and innovative mindset of the great Italian architects.

This narrative atmosphere is completed by the ceramic work of the artist Bruno Gambone and the eclectic frame of the contemporary designer Niccolò Spirito.

The winners with the award “Winner” and “Best of Best” will be exhibited in Milan on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile in the context of the Tortona Design Week 2018.

This year the design consultant and trend expert Nina Bruun developed the design concept for the international competition for up and coming young designers known as ‘ein&zwanzig’.

The main theme of this year’s event is “reflections.” In selecting the materials for the event, Bruun laid particular emphasis on surface design and the high-impact interplay between matte and glossy. “My aim is to create a pulsing visual world, a young and modern universe – one that takes the viewer by surprise right from the get-to and draws her into the exhibit’s orbit.”

GARDENS - A botanical and eco-design itinerary for the ISOLA neighborhood by Claudia Zanfi/Atelier del Paesaggio

An urban itinerary that promises to turn the area between the Garibaldi Station and the Isola District into a colorful urban garden. The project will create a street circuit marked by 'green indications' drawn on the sidewalk, and a special project dedicated to designers of Sarajevo, supported by images of Cinzia Castagna.

The project offers unreleased installations in artisan laboratories of the ISOLA district, a real natural itinerary that will be declined into three different themes.

The first theme dedicated to the ‘Botanical Room' will be presented at the RivaViva showroom, with artworks by Cinzia Castagna.

The program continues with the 'Room of Creativity' (at Space MoMo; Tiger Garibaldi Train Station) to engage the visitor towards the knowledge of ethnic handicraft and eco-design. Here again the works of the artist Cinzia Castagna tell us about nature and gardens.

The next ‘Wooden Room’ itinerary (at Algranti Lab) is to discover the different types of wood, their colors and fragrances. By caressing their surfaces we will understand a lot of the history of a tree. The expert craftsman/designer will tell us the story of this 'living material' and will present new eco-design furniture and objects.

LEXUS - LIMITLESS CO-EXISTENCE
See on Map
April 17 2018 -> April 22 2018 from 10am to 8pm

Visitors to the event will engage in imaginative and thought-provoking design that contemplates a limitless future for society. Lexus sees design as a catalyst for continuous change, for empowerment and for inclusiveness. Design can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, and reveal to humanity that, with “CO-“, as in cooperation, collaboration and coexistence – our possibilities are limitless.

The event’s sensational main installation created by Japanese architect Sota Ichikawa of doubleNegatives Architecture brings visitors face-to-face with “CO-” represented in a dynamic artwork existing in four dimensions. Ichikawa, known for combining information technology with design to re-imagine the physical space, creates an installation that intersects digital and analog. Built on an imaginative ideology that everyone is the center of the world, a visually infinite number of hanging vertical strings are used to represent the world’s individuals. Each hanging vertical string is simultaneously illuminated by a single light source and yet not one is in the shadows; a representation that each individual perspective is its own center. Through the use of technology and innovative design thinking, the seemingly impossible is achieved.

Lexus’ passion for design has fueled the growing appeal of the brand in recent years and in Milan, Lexus will be showcasing its newest concept - the innovative Lexus LF-1 Limitless that hints at future design thinking from Lexus.

To further excite guests, a unique culinary experience has been created by the trio of innovative young chefs that are Milan’s ALTATTO. They will hone the senses through taste and vision, transporting LIMITLESS CO-EXISTENCE into another dimension. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to view the works from the 12 Finalists from the 2018 Lexus Design Award which celebrates up and coming creative talent from around the world and on the Press Day of April 16th, the Grand Prix winner will be chosen by the world renowned Jury in front of the world’s media.

In the four decades of its history, NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti has investigated the concept of living, which over the years has increasingly combined with exploration of the new technologies. Today all this converges in projects that face innovative challenges in order to imagine different connections with the environment.
Thinking about the relationship between interior and exterior, we have come to the current idea of living on the move. NABA presents a prototype that investigates the potential offered by self driving allowing a slow use of what was once defined as the road: the city slows down and in return offers fluidity, sustainability and the ability to use travel time in a useful and pleasant way. The system, based on power supply technologies, is reorganized according to the actions it can host and implies a cultural leap in our concept of means of transport and charging. An open reflection that leads to the re-appropriation of private time, of silence and of new and ancient rituals originally connected to the sphere of living.

PREMIATA DITTA MARRAS
See on Map
April 16 2018 -> April 22 2018 from 10am to 11pm
*
On the occasion of Design Week 2018 Antonio Marras makes a new partnership with Francesco Maggiore - engineer, president of the Dioguardi Foundation and creative director of Kiasmo - with whom he is responsible for the "PREMIATA DITTAMARRAS & CO" operation which has led to a series of a collaboration with Italian companies chosen with Archiproducts among the most lively and innovative in the home furnishings and accessories sector: La Fabbrica del Lino, Fantin, Kiasmo, Saba, Wall & Decò.
Companies that are recognizable both in the high craftsmanship and quality value, and in the formal, expressive and functional result of the products.

From each one, new collections by Antonio Marras were born: with Saba, three new lines of upholstery for sofas and "New York" armchairs; with Kiasmo, four hands with Vincenzo D'Alba, new collections of vases, plates, tiles and cushions; a line of pillows is also signed for La Fabbrica del Lino together with a collection of table runners, tablecloths and aprons; with the Fantin company, again in collaboration with Kiasmo, a table with a shelf designed to accommodate the new series of tiles; a new wallpaper with Wall&Decò. Some of these products are declined as unique pieces, characterized by pictorial interventions made directly on products by Marras, in some cases assisted by D'Alba: industrial design meets the artistic performance and tells the extraordinary charm of the dialogue on art.

Further Marras family along Rana family set up a temporary bistrot: since the morning till the evening with café, launch and cocktail, the dinner is by reservation only.

Conceived as a space off the Triennale di Millanowithin the exhibition organized by Stefano Mirti entitled "999 questions on contemporary living" in progress from 12 January to 6 April 2018.

If the twentieth century celebrated in-dividualism, the 21st century will be the century of co-dividualism, or the rediscovery of community ties, spaces for being together, places to weave new possibilities to meet.

The interest is born to try out a new housing typology: the shared house, that is a house with common spaces conceived as a result of warm and simple, funny and contemporary design reflections where people who will use this house for a short time will have common spaces. I

n these kind of spaces they will give life to start-ups, where they can cook together, experiment with new ergonomics uses of public space in the private space. In the location of Via Ventura, 3, in addition to experimenting with new practices of being together, it is expected to host debates, meetings, exhibitions of objects and photographs. SHARED HOUSE: CO-DIVIDUAL Architecture is the result of a collaboration between FARM CULTURAL PARK and its founder Andrea Bartoli, LAPS ARCHITECTURE by Salvator-John A. Liotta and Fabienne Louyot, A14HUB, POLITECNICO of MILAN for which the prof. Marco Imperadori.

11th Edition - Stories. Italian Design

The eleventh edition of the Triennale Design Museum tells the story of Italian design by using a whole series of stories, which together illustrate its complex nature.

The display goes in two directions: on the one hand, the story unfolds diachronically, while on the other, five themes are examined in a way that allows design to be interpreted through the lens of other disciplines.

180 works dating from 1902 to 1998 – most of which come from the Permanent Collection of the Triennale Design Museum – have been selected as the most representative of Italian design. The choice is based on their innovative technology and shapes, their aesthetic qualities, experimental nature, iconic appeal, and success among the public. They introduce the debate about which pieces no museum of design should ever be without and which ones can be considered as “icons” – and also if this term is actually appropriate when talking about design.
