The theme of the 2012 Printemps de Septembre is History. Curated by art historian and critic Paul Ardenne, “History is mine!” brings together some forty artists who, each in their own way, address the question of history today. But then how could it be otherwise, given that all of us, artists or otherwise, are shaped and moved by history? Not a universal history, but a singular one, revisited and rewritten by each individual as the key material of their “life-novel.”

Printemps 2012 will be articulated around its usual venues (with the exception of Les Jacobins, currently being renovated) with a string of associate venues further along the Garonne chosen in order to diversify content and maintain close cooperation with local and regional players. Likewise, there will be a special emphasis on interventions in public space, which is eminently the space of sharing and conviviality. This festive impulse will be heighted by the Nomadic Nights, especially this year. The International Festival of Art Schools, inaugurated in 2011, will be housed this year at the École des beaux-arts.

This will be the last edition to be held in the autumn. In 2013, Le Printemps will be held in May, thus going back to the time of year, spring, that inspired the name it has kept over its 23 years of activity.

The Taipei Biennial 2012 is conceived as an exhibition that negotiates historical consciousness through an imaginative engagement with the past. Based on the assumption that a common ground of the global art system is the experience and effects of modernization, the biennial centers on the way that artists across the globe are articulating and negotiating this experience and its coming-into-being. The re-visioning of modernity, the re-writing of its master narratives, and the re-drafting of its constitutional resources is a trans-disciplinary project of global scale. This activity is driven by the urge to find a vantage point and speaking position from which we can relate to the frontiers of modernization, their present forms and their long shadows, and the role of art in their current transformations.

Curated by Berlin-based curator and critic Anselm Franke, this eighth edition takes place at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum and further locations in the City of Taipei.

Based on the experience in operating the past biennales, the 9th Shanghai Biennale 2012 will continue its local experience to face the global situation and cultural attitudes. It insists on constructing different cultural imaginations. The 9th Shanghai Biennale will be the inaugural show for Shanghai Contemporary Art Museum housed in a restoredindustrial building that used to be a thermal power plant. This marks a new beginning for the Shanghai Biennale in its 16 years of history.

The 9th Shanghai Biennale will focus on resources and energy, while the curatorial team will study the energy of sites, memories, will, comprehension and, ultimately, the community.

Bringing international and emerging photographers and artists to the city, the fifth Brighton Photo Biennial explores the theme Agents of Change.
Photography and the Politics of Space with a packed programme of free exhibitions, new commissions, talks, screenings, workshops and masterclasses.

Following the 2010 Biennial curated by Martin Parr, which saw over 60,000 visitors, the 2012 edition is curated and produced by Photoworks, the UK’s leading visual arts agency for photography.
Including work by Edmund Clark, Omer Fast, Julian Germain, Jason Larkin, Trevor Paglen, Corinne Silva, Thomson and Craighead and more, Brighton Photo Biennial 2012 (BPB12) will examine a wide range of photographic practices, collectively reflecting on ‘The Politics of Space’.
This year’s Biennial will explore how space is constructed, controlled and contested, how photography is implicated in these processes, and the tensions and possibilities this dialogue involves. BPB12 provides a critical space to think about relationships between the political occupation of physical sites and the production and dissemination of images.

Since its kick-off four years ago, Cutlog, has became a Parisian, cutting-edge contemporary art fair promoting international emerging or established galleries which are supporting emerging artists. Cutlog is both an alternative and a complement to the other art fairs, focused on presenting under-the-radar galleries. It offers a platform to up and coming artists, as well as a bridge between galleries and established collectors. Held under the dome of the Bourse de Commerce, France’s historical equivalent of Wall Street. It is a skip and a jump away from the Grand Palais and the Louvre. There, in the circular, 1000 meter square room, it disrupts the typical, stern patterns of fairs and encourages a dialogue from galleries to visitors.

Each year, it selects international and french galleries, offering a new visibility and a move away from Parisian art fairs.

The first edition of this Triennial, entitled Offside Effect, will take place from October 19 until November 20, 2012.

The notion of Offside Effect can be understood in various metaphoric modes. For example, in the mode of artistic thinking breaking through formalized frameworks of knowledge production. Or in the mode of agonistic, heterogeneous forms of laboratory-based education remedying homogenizing approaches. The ultimate ambition of the Tbilisi Triennial Offside Effect is to map a variety of practises in the form of activities, economics, methodologies, and strategies all connected with the experimental field of artistic thinking.

Various curatorial tools will be deployed in Offside Effect. Firstly, four keynote artists will be invited, i.e. artists who have demonstrated in their renowned practices to be able to articulate a stance with respect to art academies and art education. The four keynotes are: Hito Steyerl, Stephan Dillemuth, Anton Vidokle, and Marion von Osten.

Secondly, around twelve experimental education platforms—Maumaus (Lisboa), ISA (Habana), Staedelschule (Frankfurt), Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (Helsinki), MaHKU (Utrecht), Mildred's Lane (New York), F+F (Zurich), AICA (Yerevan), KHAS (Istanbul), Addis Contemporary (Addis Ababa), Kaywon College (Seoul) and CCA IMP (Tbilisi)—will be asked to demonstrate and disseminate their specific view on visual art, art education, and research in a number of presentations. The "Academy as Exhibition" is the ultimate curatorial position Offside Effect will take.
