Shokunin: Preserving Tradition, Evolving, Emerging.

The precious metal tea caddies produced by Kaikado and the wooden buckets by Nakagawa Mokkougei Hirakoubou, are realized according to the principle of perfection which is at the base of the philosophy behind the work of Shokunin masters. Today they turn out to be up to date in their essential aesthetic and bring a new opening to the future.

Beacon Helsinki, a network of Finnish designers, presents at Milan Design Week 2016 an exhibition showing the most inter- esting Finnish designers together with Finnish food by wild food chef Sami Tallberg and world-class gin by Kyro Distillery.

Designers are Mika Ihanus, Mari Isopahkala, Sebastian Jansson, Antti Kotilainen, Mikko Laakkonen, Jouni Leino, MottoWasabi, Samuli Naamanka and Jesse Pietila, bringing to Milan a mix of furniture, lighting objects, tableware and jewellery.

GUFRAM ON THE ROCKS. 50 Years of Design against the Tide.

The exhibition presents the first 50 years of Gufram through its most symbolic projects.
With a special setting, some of the most representative icons of the history of Gufram invade the gallery space: from the sofa Bocca by Studio65 to Cactus designed by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello, from Pratone by Giorgio Ceretti, Pietro Derossi and Riccardo Rosso, to Sasso and Sedilsasso by Piero Gilardi, from Globe by Studio Job to Magnolia by Marcel Wanders, and many others.

ABITARE ITALIA - Casa Museo

For this occasion the Gallery space has been restored, redesigned and transformed into a kind of sodalitates litterarum, through the reconstruction of a meticulously accurate interior space (dining room - living room). In this space, forms are the main characters, from different periods and styles cohabiting in a refined interior inspired by a 1970’s aesthetic.

For the month of April, the scaffolding of one of the buildings under renovation of the famous pedestrian street will in fact be covered by a giant 2D and 3D art installation in Alcantara® which, as if by magic, will reproduce the facade of a real hotel. Not only: every day, as the sun goes down, thanks to a series of video mapping animations, the Alcantara® MAGIC HOTEL will come to life, showing what happens inside the hotel.

“50 MANGA CHAIRS”
An installation of Nendo’s new work for Friedman Benda Gallery, New York
This installation of 50 manga chairs is the result of adapting the strong symbolic nature of manga comics to furniture design. Manga consist of a series of frames on a single sheet of paper that creates a sequence. Similarly, 50 standard chairs are lined up in a grid, each one conjures up a sense of story, and each with a design element from manga.

Pursuing the concept of Japanese culture as a space and building on its unique world perspective to become a new imagination of space.
7 Dimensions is a combined audio and visual spatial installation created by seven columns of images that consist of 140 monitors, and represents a unique fusion of space and video that cannot be experienced anywhere else.

This international ‘Design Route’ will take you through Isola into Brera. Along this route you will find exhibitions featuring, among others, Okolo, Max Lamb, Dilmos gallery, Nodus, Écal university and Rijksmuseum with Arita. It also features various inspiring restaurants, shops like Corso Como 10 and interesting architecture such as the prestigious Bosco Verticale building; a skyscraper that not only houses people, but also over nine hundred trees.

In 2017 it will be 100 years since Theo van Doesburg established the magazine De Stijl.
World-famous artists like Piet Mondriaan, Gerrit Rietveld and Bart van der Leck were part of this avant-garde movement. Throughout 2017 there will be countless exhibitions large and small related to the theme ‘From Mondriaan to Dutch Design’ in various locations throughout the Netherlands.
