Belgitude

For Milan Design Week 2017 Belgium is Design, have joined forces to take part in the group event A Matter of Perception at Palazzo Litta whose 2017 theme is dedicated to Linking Minds.

Belgitude is a simple declaration of pride in diversity: different historical roots, different languages, different backgrounds, skills and industrial specialities. Fearless to innovate, or to open up new horizons, or to mix identities. This is Belgium.

Elaborating on the 2016 approach, Belgium is Design asked 10 designers to select the companies they wanted to collaborate with. The reasons for their choices are boundless: affinity, continuity or curiosity… Belgitude is about exchanging know-hows, collaborative excellence, friendly dialogues, but most of all, it is about local production, and definitely, about time.

Atelier Lachaert Dhanis (Sofie Lachaert & Luc D’hanis) / Art Casting, Nicolas Bovesse / Keramis, Jean-François D'or / Maison Vervloet, Benoît Deneufbourg / Cruso, Nathalie Dewez / Val Saint Lambert, Jan & Randoald / Labt Laend (Chevalier Masson + Diane Steverlynck) / Valerie_Traan, Xavier Lust / Charles Schambourg By Nacarat, Muller Van Severen / Emaillerie Belge, Julien Renault / Kewlox

Furthermore, six emerging designers represent Belgium at the SaloneSatellite 2017 - Stand A21 - with THE NEW BELGIANS : Romy Di Donato, Nicolas Brevers / Gobo Lights, Coralie Miessen, Paulineplusluis, Pierre-Emmanuel Vandeputte, Laurent Verly.

This third edition of the exhibition explores the theme LINKING MINDS.

Following this concept the courtyard of the Palazzo, the heart of the event, will be interpreted this year by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the New York-based interdisciplinary design studio that works at the intersection of architecture, visual and performing arts.

For the first time, both courtyards will be connected to a single exhibition, from the main courtyard – where the installation of Diller Scofidio + Renfro will be held – to the Clock’s courtyard creating a unique path to the Litta Theater, the most ancient and still open theatre in the city.

For whole week (4-9 April) Palazzo Litta will, therefore, be enriched by the spaces of the Theatre, the Foyer, the café-restaurant and from the Clock’s courtyard outdoor areas - doubling the surface of the exhibition.

Held in the Theatre the renewed collaboration with Michele De Lucchi, Andrea Branzi and Francesca Balena Arista - for the third year in a row - will investigate the theme of ‘The Aesthetics of Drama’ in the contemporary world.

BISTROT LITTA VENTIQUATTRO - Elisa Ossino Studio signs the interior design of Palazzo Litta’s bar: what is today the meeting point of a patrician and historical residence has been re-imagined in a contemporary and informal way.

EXHIBITORS : Diller Scofidio + Renfro / Michele De Lucchi, Andrea Branzi and Francesca Balena Arista / Belgium is Design / Wb form / Diptyque / Squid / Matter and Muse / Raffaella Mangiarotti and Ilkka Suppanen / Japan Creative / Nude / Valresa with to RED-aede / Ars fabricandi / Intimate Strangers curated by Gulla Jonsdottir / Ichendorf / Garcìa Cumini for Cesar / AuCap / Babled Design / Made a Mano / Paolo Giordano Design / Forme d’Acqua / PLH / Yamakawa Rattan / Punkt / UNIRSM

Invisible Outlines

We tend to perceive the existence and positioning of objects by subconsciously following “outlines”, and by distinguishing the“inside and outside” of these contours.
This also means that objects with obscure outlines cannot always be identified as objects, and conversely if outlines are visible, that information which is not visible can be subconsciously supplemented. The exhibition takes this fundamental principle into account, and the following ideas were implemented as a theme. The existence of items are blurred by manipulating outlines in various ways, or the viewers can recognize some existence of an item visually in their minds by making invisible outlines visible.
