Danish magazine Elle has been backstage with the models, stylists and designers for the past 15 years. The Backstage exhibition is a series of shots by photographer Lasse Bak Mejlvang for Elle.

In September 2008 Danish Elle was published for the first time and we decided not only to follow Copenhagen Fashion Week from the frontrow but also, through Lasse Bak Mejlvang’s photographs, to document everything that is usually hidden from the public eye: The innumerable changes of clothes, fleeting moments between shows, and the hectic activity backstage.

The 10-12 minutes a fashion show lasts takes months of preparation and concentrated work by many dedicated people. Backstage - 15 års fotografi fra Copenhagen Fashion Week' provides a unique glimpse into the rapidly developing Fashion Week and spotlights an industry in which trends, timing, craftsmanship and hard work come together twice a year, February and August, when Copenhagen Fashion Week takes place.

Designmuseum Denmark has hosted large and small exhibitions, talks and several fashion shows during the past 15 years. So it was an obvious choice to have the exhibition staged in the green garden in the heart of Copenhagen.

During the upcoming CPHFW, MLGA invites the audience to experience the universe of a newly launched brand in the form of an exhibition, set to be displayed in the heart of Copenhagen.

The gallery will get a chance to touch the hand-woven materials, explore designers' creative process as well as get a glimpse into the new collection that is set to be launched together with Browns in the beginning of the coming year.

The space will be set to inspire and introduce MLGA as a new designer and will give the viewers a modest look into what is to come in the Danish design scene.

The exhibition will be available to experience during the full Copenhagen Fashion Week, starting on the Monday, August 7 through Friday, August 11, 2023.

The guests will then be invited to discover the exhibition freely before it is open to the public. After the opening, "Nouvelle Vague" will be open Wednesday, August 9 (12:00-19:00), Thursday, August 10 (11:00-19:00) and Friday, August 11 (11:00-17:00).

About the exhibition

Designed by the students of the French fashion school Casa93 and the Danish creative bureau inter.agcy, "Nouvelle Vague" emphasizes the urgency of rethinking fashion in the light of the climate crisis and gives a platform to the next generation to create and showcase their work. With a contemporary installation set-up, custommade works and a distorted, expressive display, the students’ designs fuse contemporary aesthetics with natural elements. Each design represents a new harmony between humans and the environment, an environment that will evolve radically due to the climate and biodiversity crisis.
