The International Festival for Films on Art will take place from September 11 to 29, 2013.

DOKU.ARTS was initiated by director Andreas Lewin and established by the Academy of Arts Berlin. From 2008 to 2010, DOKU.ARTS was a guest at the Netherlands Filmmuseum Amsterdam.

The festival explores the connections between the history of cinema and television and art. It shows contemporary cinematic portrayals and documents about artists and art, which succeed in getting close to the life and work of artists.

The festival screens, promotes and discusses documentaries from all art fields: music, literature, theatre, dance, cinema, architecture, painting, sculpture, visual art and media art.

The 2013 programme focuses mainly on compilation films and new documentaries on art and artists working with archive material. In addition to compilations and archive art films, a special highlight of this year's programme will be a section comprising North African and Arab films on art presented by DOKU.ARTS in conjunction with Cinémathèque de Tanger.

2013 will also see the extension of the successful cooperation with the Instituto Moreiro Salles. A selection of DOKU.ARTS films will once again be screened in Rio de Janeiro in November 2013.
