The 34th Edition will present 22 designers and 17 labels at 28 fashion shows
Dear All,
With “Organic” as its theme, the 34th edition of Portugal Fashion will start in Lisbon on Wednesday, 26th March and continue to be held in Porto from Thursday, 27th to Saturday, 29th March 2014.
Venues have been meticulously chosen as Manuel Lopes Teixeira, who is presiding over the event, explains, “we have chosen buildings with marked aesthetical features and encouraged an active dialogue between the runway and the settings”.
Meanwhile the fashion event will kick off with the designer duo Storytailors at Ribeiro da Cunha Palace in Lisbon, it will then continue at the Science Academy of Lisbon with the fashion show of HIBU and João Melo Costa and will be closed by designer duo Alves/Gonçalves.
Finally, the monumental Customs Building will serve as the venue in Porto for both renowned designers such as Anabela Baldaque, Diogo Miranda, Fátima Lopes, Júlio Torcato, Luís Buchinho, Luís Onofre, Miguel Vieira and Katty Xiomara and young designers such as Daniela Barros, Estelita Mendonça, Hugo Costa and Susana Bettencourt.
In both cities, the organic theme will run like a common thread through the presentations. Portugal Fashion “will showcase the organic interactions between elements that result in the creation of fashion, focusing on the aesthetic interplay between the pieces and the buildings where the shows will take place”.
Organised by ANJE – Associação Nacional de Jovens Empresários (National Association of Young Entrepreneurs), in partnership with ATP – Associação Têxtil e Vestuário de Portugal (Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association), and currently financed by QREN, within the scope of the Compete Programme – Operational Competitiveness Factors Programme, Portugal Fashion will present 22 designers and 17 brands (11 clothing and 6 footwear brands) at 28 fashion shows (24 individual, 2 double and 2 collective shows).
However, it does not stop here: alongside these fashion shows, the Brand Up showroom will display designer collections and a concept store at the Peninsula Boutique Center in Porto will widen the scope of the Pop-Up Store BLOOM concept, which is an initiative to promote young designers.
One of the highlights, is the fashion show by the final eight participants in the Bloom Competition – an initiative in which young designers design a collection of four outfits. The four best designers will be announced at the end of this show. This kind of competitions are very important according to Lopes Teixeira as “the younger generation needs to be brought into Portuguese fashion if we wish to increase its appeal to the global market and help the Portuguese textile sector become more competitive, on an international level”.
