The 2015 Swiss Federal Design Awards were given to two designers represented by the Paris-based Gallery Kreo, namely Julie Richoz and Brynjar Sigurðarson.
"Julie Rochoz plays with objects that both occupy and change their environment in a subtle way. Their physical presence plays a crucial role for her work, but their permeability is also essential. Her work is emphasized by a subtle poetry. The jury was dazzled," wrote Clémence and Didier Krzentowski, the gallery owners, in an official statement about the young Paris-based designer, who is just 25 years old.
Brynjar Sigurðarson, for his part, is a 29 years old designer who lives and and works in Lausanne. "Sigurðarson’s study was made in a fishing village in the northeast of Iceland. It is a convincing approach to technical knotting and its aesthetics and semiotic qualities. The austere presentation of manufactured and found objects as well as the designer’s film screening were able to convince the jury," the gallerists added.
