From December 2nd to 6th, the Centre Georges Pompidou will host the 8th edition of ASVOFF — A Shaded View on Fashion Film festival.

Founded in 2008 by journalist and fashion influencer Diane Pernet, ASVOFF is the first international film festival to be centered around a competition of short feature films produced by the fashion industry’s protagonists.

This 8th edition will feature 80 films from 5 to 10 minutes, which will be screened at the
Centre Georges Pompidou. The selected films epitomize a kaleidoscope of the year’s best productions from around the world, from emerging talents or major names of fashion and image. Among the directors, there are Lernert & Sander, Ellen von Unwerth, Brando de Sica, Marie Schuller, André Saraiva or Wing Shya, and throughout these films, there will be noted glimpses of Emmanuelle Seigner or Wim Wenders. A jury of taste makers and influent professionals in arts and media give awards to the best films. The festival’s program is enriched with themed sessions, round tables, conferences and live performances to make it into a uniquely wide-ranging moment of fashion culture and what inspires it.

This year’s guest of honor is no other than Jean Paul Gaultier, one of the most iconic French couturiers. Gaultier will preside the jury of the fashion film competition. A Carte Blanche session will be dedicated to him, hosted by journalist and critic Elisabeth Quin. ASVOFF will also offer thematic sessions with prestigious guests such as Iris van Herpen, Nicolas Godin, Nicolas Saada or Mathias Kiss, as well as documentaries, including a special Arte cycle. A masterclass around the Woolmark saga with Colin McDowell, conferences and live performances from cult group Chicks on Speed are part of this weekend dedicated to fashion and film, and to what inspires them.
