This year, on the occasion of the 50th edition of Arles' photography festival, an incredible amount of archives are being shown in various spaces such as the Musée de Réattu. 300,000 pieces make up the historical memory of this festival, including 3,300 photographs of artists discovered and propelled also thanks to this event.

This year's festival pays tribute to its founders: Lucien Clergue, Jean-Maurice Rouquette and Michel Tournier, photographers who have made the official recognition of their art an activist act. An exhibition of Edward Weston, photographer of the beginning of the century, also a strong symbol, since he had an exhibit in 1970 at Arles' first edition, will dialogue with Clergues' photography.

Along these tributes, the festival is organized in four new themes: My body is a weapon, The Threshold, Living, Building image. These are all subjects that aim to take a look at our world, which is undergoing major transformations, where very often the aspect or image - as a witness or as an actress - occupies a central position. The body obsession,, women's empowerment, the migration crisis and the climate emergency are among the main issues tackled by the talents of Arles 2019.

Exhibits are ongoing from July 1st till September 22nd.
