Iris van Herpen honored with the title Chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres

Deutch designer Iris van Herpen, who founded his eponymous high fashion brand in 2007, has been named "Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" by the French government for her contributions to art, culture, and literature in France and around the world. The designer received the award during Paris Haute Couture Week, where she presented her fall/winter 2024 couture collection. The award ceremony was held at the Dutch embassy in Paris, where Olivier Gabet, director of the Objects d'art department of the Louvre, awarded her the title.

Widely heralded as one of fashion’s most forward-thinking designers, Dutch designer Iris van Herpen was born in 1984 and graduated from ArtEZ' fashion academy. In 2010, she showed her first 3D-printed design at Amsterdam Fashion Week. Since 2011 she has shown his collections at Paris Fashion Week and is a guest member of the Fédération de la haute couture et de la mode. Moma-Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris have been dedicated to Iris van Herpen important exhibitions. In November 2023, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris hosted an exhibition about her work entitled "Iris Van Herpen. Sculpting the Senses".

Renowned for her futuristic aesthetic, the artist is considered as a pioneer in applying new technologies to her discipline. Iris van Herpen transgresses conventional clothing norms while embracing both traditional Couture craftsmanship and innovative techniques.
