Seoul Fashion Week takes step towards environmental protection, launching a sustainable fashion project.
The fashion industry’s dedication to environmental sustainability is demonstrated by a number of sustainable fashion events. Apart from organizing sustainable fashion seminars and brand shows, the organisation works with businesses that prioritize environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management to incorporate eco-friendly initiatives.
During Seoul Fashion Week SS25, the brand PartsParts, designed by Imseonoc, presents the exhibition titled "PartsParts Zero Waste / Fashion and the Sustainability" on the 4th floor at DDP Design Lab.
PartsParts was founded in 2011 and operates on the “zero waste” principle. It produces all of its collections using New Neoprene, an in-house developed material. The business is known for creating Lego block-style patterns that minimize the need for additional materials by using a special method of no-sew bonding, therefore reducing fabric waste. The exhibition focuses on an overview of the brand’s distinctive design and production techniques, and famous pieces from the brand’s seasonal collections as well as objects made using cutting-edge processes. The workshops for experimenting and expanding zero waste are planned for September 6 and 7, which students and the public, who are interested in sustainable fashion and have applied via PartsParts‘s Instagram, will be joining.
Global textile producer Hyosung Tnc showcases its SS25 collection, which features innovative eco-friendly products for a sustainable future. The brand presents the manufacturing process for regen Ocean, the first nylon in the world manufactured from recycled fishing nets that are retrieved from the ocean, and regen polyester, which is made from recycled plastic bottles that have been abandoned. The different applications of bio-spandex, which achieves carbon reduction from the raw material stage by substituting renewable raw materials for petroleum-based ones, will also be on exhibition, providing guests with the chance to see the technology underlying sustainable fashion. Additionally, goods that recycle waste fabrics that are typically thrown away during the production of hotel bedding and clothing will be presented. As one of the world’s largest spandex manufacturers, Hyosung Tnc is aiming to pioneer the sustainable and circular economy of the future by going beyond the creation of recycled fibers. The company is constantly investigating renewable resources in an effort to reduce carbon emissions from the raw material stage, and it aims to create 50,000 tons of bio-BDO (butanediol) annually starting in 2026 by fermenting sugarcane.
Jeju Samdasoo, the No. 1 bottled water brand in Korea, will collaborate with Seoul Fashion Week SS25 participating brand Julycolumn to unveil its ‘Zero Waste Collection’ made from waste plastic fabrics on the runway. In addition, the company participates as an official partner of Seoul Fashion Week this season, providing Jeju Samdasoo products; it will launch the recycling project “New Turn with Cycle,” which will collect consumed plastic bottles at 2025 S/S Seoul Fashion Week and make them into upcycled goods. Jeju Samdasoo is actively involved in environmental conservation and sustainable development by introducing environmental initiatives such as lightweight and label-free water bottles that have enabled the company to successfully reduce the amount of plastic used by 2,570 tons over the last three years. Furthermore, Jeju Samdasoo has undertaken a resource recycling initiative that involves gathering used clear plastic bottles and their caps, which has led to a decrease of 7,100 tons of carbon emissions over a four-year period. The company aims to cut plastic consumption by 50% by 2030 and will keep looking for ways to protect the environment.
