The exhibition, curated by Judith Clark, seeks to represent the different creative and entrepreneurial interests of Elio Fiorucci (Milan, 1935–2015), the designer, fashion designer and cool hunter whom Gillo Dorfles dubbed “the Duchamp of Italian fashion”. From the 1960s on, the Fiorucci brand revolutionized lifestyle, fashion and the contemporary art scene in Italy. Fiorucci’s concept stores, starting with the first boutique he opened in 1967 in Galleria Passarella, Milan, offered the public an original and eclectic mix of clothing, records, publications and objects from the world over. For more than three decades the stores were also the point of reference for happenings and performances as well as the stage for music and contemporary art capable of attracting intellectuals, performers and artists of every stripe. The retrospective examines, from an international perspective, the cultural context and diverse fields Fiorucci explored through his multifaceted activity, starting with fashion; namely, architecture, design, music, art and entertainment.
