Institut du Monde Arabe: Arabofuturs

Arabofuturs invites visitors to enter the dreamlike worlds of science fiction and the new Arab imaginaries. This contemporary art exhibition, curated by Élodie Bouffard and Nawel Dehina, serves as an introduction to a fantastic, dynamic laboratory of hypotheses currently unfolding across all creative domains.

Here, videographers, visual artists, photographers, and performers renew perspectives, redefine identities, and aim to offer emancipating counter-narratives. Globalization, modernity, ecology, migration, gender, and decolonization are among their key subjects. Eighteen artists present new, plural, committed, and life-affirming possibilities, or dystopian visions that reveal the contradictions of our world.

Their works function as both tools for reflection and invitations to shift one’s gaze towards alternative futures. They create a space where those who are often invisible in our present can see themselves and imagine a future in which they are legitimate. In this way, artists craft new emancipatory futures that challenge and liberate our imaginations from dominant, anthropocentric discourses. These works offer space not only to marginalized individuals but also to the living and even the non-living around us. The goal is to create a world where these elements can reclaim their place, highlighting the fragility of human dominance.

The exhibition features works by Zahrah Al Ghamdi, Sophia Al Maria, Fatima Al Qadiri, Mounir Ayache, Meriem Bennani, Hicham Berrada, Neïla Czermak Ichti, Souraya Haddad Credoz, Ayham Jabr, Tarek Lakhrissi, Søren Lind, Sara Sadik, Gaby Sahhar, Larissa Sansour, Hala Schoukair, Skyseeef, Aïcha Snoussi, and Ayman Zedani.

Backstage by Sasha Mongin

On the occasion of Paris Fashion Week, Galerie M is showcasing the photographic series Backstage by Sasha Mongin, captured behind the scenes of fashion shows.

This photographic work gained attention during the latest edition of the Picto Prize for Fashion Photography, where photographer Sasha Mongin was named a 2024 finalist.

"The backstage of a fashion show is a very unique universe. It hosts a hive of protagonists at the peak of excitement and stress after weeks of preparation, leading up to a highly symbolic climax: the walk down the runway, where an artist's creations are revealed to the world. Emotions run high and are palpable", said Sasha Mongin.

True to the dreamlike universe characteristic of her work, Sasha Mongin has chosen to obscure the distinctive elements of the backstage and its less aesthetic décor, to explore the boundaries between the reality and the imagination of fashion. The designers who allowed her to be present behind the scenes of their shows include Louis-Gabriel Nouchi, Alphonse Maitrepierre, Victor de Weinsanto, Cho Cheng, Ruo Han, Benjamin Benmoyal, and Sara Chraibi, who is also contributing to the exhibition by lending some of her Couture pieces.

Born in the United States in 1989 and a graduate of the Gobelins School in 2017, Sasha Mongin lives and works in Paris. In 2023, she exhibited two series exploring masculinity, “Ecrins” and “Mythes, Chapter I” at Galerie M. In 2024, Sasha's work caught the attention of Christine and the Queens, who entrusted her with directing the music video for "Rentrer chez moi".
