Showroom

Brought together by affinity or nationality, the collective showrooms are an alternative way of presenting designer collections. A focus on the main ones to follow.

Fin Noir is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to help Finnish designers and fashion professionals to expand their international network. The selected names receive financial support in their future collaborations as well as a platform to present to an international audience of press and buyers at Paris Fashion Week. Candidates are chosen on the basis of their influence on the Finnish Fashion industry. This season's 17 designers, photographers and fashion illustrators have already established international media coverage and sell abroad.

Fin Noir's selection: Irene Mikaela Häggkvist, Nina Jatuli, Samuji Paola Suhonen, R/H, Sanna Saastamoinen-Barrois, Kirsi Nisonen, Minna Parikka, Tyra Therman, Pekka Salokannel, Lotta Veromaa, Samuli Karala, Nina Merikallio, Aleksi Niemelä, Perttu Saksa, Sakke Soini and Antti Meriluoto.

Next year will see Fin Noir branch out, presenting in New York and Tokyo too.

ON|OFF, a London-based company that has bridged the gap between on and off schedule designers since 2003, is making its debut on the Paris Fashion Week catwalks. The organisation previously gave designers such as Gareth Pugh, Hannah Marshall, Peter Pilotto, Louise Gray and Kaviar Gauche the necessary means to market their collections to an international audience of buyers and press.

Making its debut in Paris Fashion Week, September 2011,ON|OFF becomes THE GLOBAL INNOVATIVE FASHION SHOWCASE, with two catwalk shows and a unique showroom space at Espace Commines. The team has selected two debutants to show in the French Capital: Pam Hogg and Charlie Le Mindu. A third catwalk show, ON|OFF Presents..., will introduce London based designers, Hasan Hejazi and Kerhao, and Turkish designer, Zeynep Tosun, while the showroom will feature Spring Summer looks from Rein Vollenga, Laura Theiss, Lee Lapthorne, Zeynep Tosun, Haizhen Wang and Makin Jan Ma.

Under the slogan, “Are you craving style? Come and taste some Berlin fashion!”, the Berlin Fashion scene presents ten of its designers at Paris Fashion Week. The German designers’ collections will be showcased at the French capital’s tradeshows, Capsule and Tranoi, as part of Taste Berlin. Those showing Spring Summer 2012 collections at Tranoi are: F.Rau, ISSEVER BAHRI, MIROÏKE, THU THU et Vladimir Karaleev; Capsule are: DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGERS, Esther Perbandt, Hien Le, Kimberit et MALAIKARAISS.

Ten of Belgium’s fashion designers as well as four graduates from prestigious fashion schools, especially chosen for this season, will present collections as part of Showroom Belgium. Organised by Flanders Fashion Institute (FFI) and Wallonie-Bruxelles Design/Mode (WBDM), the collective showroom continues to showcase Belgium fashion design talent to an international audience during Paris Fashion Week, having done so for two years.

Those selected this season to present are: Black Balloon, Céline Pinckers, Conni Kaminski, Eric Beauduin, filles a papa, Monsieur Bul, Niyona, The Cookie Therapy, Talitali by Zhao Li, WOLF. By Sofie Claes along with the quartet of graduate designers, Elisabeth Claes (Academy of Fine Arts – Ghent), Elodie Laurent (HELMo Mode – Liège), Niels Peeraer (Royal Academy of Fine Arts – Antwerp) and Zoë Vermeire (La Cambre Mode[s] – Brussels).

Another collective showroom brings together the Spring Summer 2012 collections from Ann-Sofie Back, Arielle de Pinto and Christian Wijnants. Having previously been showcased in New York, in an environment designed to emulate the Parisian presentation space in Le Marais, the three designers are part of a project that shares values and directions. While the individual labels stand alone with styles unique to their separate aesthetics, there is a cross-over in their markets and buyers as well as in their approach to fashion.

From September 28 until October 5, 2011, the collective showroom will present the relative Spring Summer designs in an effort to support younger brands that co-exist with more established houses but perhaps without the resources.
