ADI DESIGN MUSEUM: ORIGIN OF SIMPLICITY: 20 VISIONS OF JAPANESE DESIGN

ADI Design Museum introduces a new perspective to Japanese design, titled Origin of Simplicity: 20 Visions of Japanese Design. This exhibition is a transversal overview through design and craftsmanship to understand the origins of the very concept of simplicity, rooted in diverse philosophical schools of thought belonging to this culture ranging from Zen Buddhism to Shinto animist thought and almost the opposite of Western rationality.

The exhibition is a brand new piece of research conceived by curator Rossella Menegazzo, a researcher into the history of Japanese art and culture from the University of Milan, together with graphic and exhibition design by Japanese designer and curator Kenya Hara, who conceived the exhibition itinerary as a forest through which to walk.

On display, there are over 150 works, mostly unseen before in Italy and designed by the most representative names in modern and contemporary design, some of whom have written the history of Japanese design starting from the 1960s, along with other exponents from later generations who are less known to the international public.

Saint Laurent Rive Droite presents an exclusive collaboration with the Gio Ponti archives and the fundación Anala y Armando Planchart on the occasion of Milan design week. The exhibition, curated by Anthony Vaccarello, showcases an exceptional plate collection, originally designed by Gio Ponti in 1957 for Villa Planchart in Venezuela. In finalizing the interior decoration of the Villa Planchart, Ponti employed exceptional Italian artisans with traditional expertise, including the Florentine manufacturer Ginori 1735, for which he had previously worked as artistic director. he designed a set of porcelain tableware decorated with the symbols and motifs of the villa, illustrating his artistic talent and eye for detail: the sun, the crescent moon, the polar star and magnificent iterations of the letter “a”, an homage to anala and armando. Saint Laurent Rive Droite, in collaboration with Ginori 1735, has reissued 12 original plates from the Villa Planchart segnaposto collection designed by gio ponti in 1957. These traditionally crafted decorative porcelain plates are painted by hand in Ginori 1735’s Italian manufacture.

BRERA DESIGN DISTRICT – TRANSITIONS – STARK

April 15 2024 -> April 21 2024

Transitions, the installation proposed by Stark on the occasion of the new theme suggested by the Fuorisalone, invites a multisensory and interactive exploration of the transitions created by the relationship between matter and water. For the first time, walking into the Sala dei Pilastri of the Castello Sforzesco resembles venturing into matter in a state of transition, thanks to the signs that the presence or absence of water generates with and within it. As could happen for the soil, the fragmented, hardened, and dry lines are transformed through the presence of pervasive humidity, evolving into winding flows in the matter’s internal pathways. This year as well, the composer Paolo Bragaglia inspires a perceptive exploration through sounds as living matter in transition. The soundscape thus guides the gaze through the smooth transitions of light that enliven the venue. The collaboration of Stark with the creative team composed of architects Alice Buroni and Gloria Lisi together with Alex Buroni and Sabine Lindner leads to a representation of the transitions between the drawn forms by the presence of water in matter, where an unexpected trompe-l'œil reflects matter and human beings as interacting parts of the same nature.

It's the destination reached after a long journey, or many journeys, to celebrate the brand's twentieth anniversary, always dedicated to achieving the most exclusive sartorial lifestyle. Solferino 28 is once again the setting for an installation in the Brera Design District. The Architect Mario Cucinella, with his Mca studio, signs "Urban Mining" which will be developed in the inner courtyard of the Corriere della Sera, offering an unprecedented vision of sustainability. As Cucinella himself explains, "Urban minig will describe the urban reality as a possible reserve for the future. Urban space is seen as "an ecosystem that, by deconstructing, transforms itself from its own material, as it happens in nature. An idea of circularity applied to architecture in which the creative process becomes central". The social and cultural theme launched by this installation is taken up by Corriere della Sera, Living, and Abitare with some meetings in Sala Buzzati.
In addition, there are guided tours of the Palazzo del Corriere della Sera.
