In the year of Euroluce, the Salone del Mobile has commissioned a monumental kinetic installation by Es Devlin, the British artist and designer, known as a ‘poet of light’. The work is being created within one of Milan’s most venerable landmarks: the Pinacoteca di Brera. The installation Library of Light reflects a phrase by Umberto Eco that came to the artist's mind as she climbed the tall shelves of the Braidense National Library: “Books are the compass of the mind, they point to countless worlds yet to be explored.”

Through the immense popularity of anime, manga, or global phenomena, Japanese narratives and visuals have conquered the world, shaping pop culture and popularizing themes from Japanese folklore in Western media. In this context, Folklore Fusion explores the creative interplay between tradition and modern visual storytelling with a cutting-edge CGI character project.

After an intense trip through Tokyo’s vibrant neighborhoods, rich history, architecture, and local legends, ECAL Bachelor Media & Interaction Design students created the Swijūs, hybrid creatures blending Japanese and Swiss Folklore. Beneath its playful appearance, Folklore Fusion examines the narrative potential of modular design.

Presented at Milan Design Week in a scenography conceived by ECAL Bachelor Industrial Design students, the project offers an immersive experience that brings the Swijūs to life, enriched by a trading card game collection, an interactive map of Tokyo, and a printed publication.

Beyond paying tribute to Japanese culture, Folklore Fusion and its Swijūs become imaginary artefacts, reflecting the cultural exchanges and shared narratives of our time.

At La Pelota, Hermès presents an immersive experience where materials blend with light. The scenography, designed by Charlotte Macaux Perelman, architect and artistic director of Hermès collections, in collaboration with Alexis Fabry, transforms the space into an ethereal environment where design is expressed as pure emotion. The Spanish maison Loewe, owned by the French group LVMH, returns to Palazzo Citterio, where it presents Teapots, a project dedicated to supporting craftsmanship initiated by Jonathan Anderson, followed by designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. Teapots is a collection of teapots specially developed by 25 artists and architects who have worked on and reimagined the sculptural form of the teapot, drawing from various traditions of tea production and culture from around the world.

Miu Miu presents Literary Club, 2025-“A Woman’s Education”. Now in its second edition, the project explores themes of female childhood, love, and sexual education through the works of two literary icons: French existentialist philosopher Simone de Beauvoir and Fumiko Enchi, one of the most influential female writers of the Shōwa era in Japan. Estelle A. Alanbari, a London-based artist, is an interdisciplinary figure who merges art, architecture, and social sciences in her research. She has exhibited in prestigious international venues, including the Venice Biennale, with the goal of making art accessible and engaging beyond conventional spaces. Her academic journey spans from the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris to the London School of Economics and the Chelsea College of Art and Design, shaping her innovative and multidisciplinary vision.

With "An Ode to Natural Resilience", Pianca reaffirms its commitment to promoting a conscious design culture that harmonizes aesthetics with environmental responsibility. Eidos Group presents the excellence of contract design and invites the public to explore its eco-friendly and interactive space design. The installation uses existing and recyclable materials, such as glass bottles with Eidos logo caps that visitors can take with them and reuse at the end of the event, with no waste of materials. The original location of the Eidos Group is the setting for the futuristic marble design works of Stoneform and the elegant furniture novelties of Brianform, companies that, with Essence Interiors dedicated to space design, are part of the Group. In addition to new products, the Fuorisalone calendar includes several initiatives that embrace not only luxury living but also art, food design, and entertainment. Among these, the daily showcooking of Italian chef Max Mariola, who for Stoneform has signed The Sound of Love: a table that integrates various functions, transforming the art of cooking and conviviality into a masterpiece of design.

Opening on April 7 with the presentation of the Eidos Group and its designers: Carlo Forcolini, Egregio, Andrea Sanna, Michael Milesi, Andrea Sgherza and Giuseppe Fallacara, and artist Eleonora Federico. The eagerly awaited guest on Tuesday, April 8, is Francesco Cozza Caposavi, advisor to the Minister of Cultural Heritage, who will present the book “Caravaggio, il portale di Dio” by the artist and scholar Antonello di Pinto, who will also be present at the event. On April 9, it is the turn of Fabrizio Cimadon, Giorgio Russo, and James M. Thomason, with the presentation of the "Club Carpeneto" albergo diffuso project. In the heart of Milan, dOT-design Outdoor Texture returns, now in its 8th edition with a brand new look. The event, organised by VG crea in collaboration with EN Space network, takes place in the heart of the Brera Design District, transforming this historic place into a space for research and design experimentation.

The event dedicated to living design, with an exhibition area of more than 1,000 square meters (developed between the square, the two indoor cloisters, and the garden) and the participation of many exhibitors and designers, offers an in-depth look at the material and technological research behind contemporary design.

The 2025 edition revolves around the theme of "matter", understood as the generative principle of design: from the essence of the material that defines its form, to the experiments that expand its expressive and applicative potential, to its concretisation in the finished product. Matter understood both as a structural element and as a coating, appreciated for the expressive and sensory qualities derived from textures and surface finishes.

A significant contribution to the project debate comes with dOT MATERICA, the new exhibition format set up in the Small Cloister, curated by Sabina Antonini and Alessandra Coppa. This curatorial space aims to explore the role of matter as a foundational element of architecture and design through an exhibition that highlights research, innovation and concrete applications in the realisation of microarchitecture conceived with the help of artificial intelligence. The protagonists of this section are four leading project realities-ATI Project, Lombardini22, Progetto CMR, and Studio Marco Piva.

Swiss bathroom specialist Laufen transforms the Laufen space Milano into a nocturnal installation featuring the first products created in collaboration with Swiss designer Yves Behar. Inspired by the magic of water and its movement, the designer has created new objects in Saphirkeramik fired in the world’s first CO2-free electric kiln. A video projection reproduces the mesmerizing transformation of ceramic within the e-kiln.

The experiential itinerary starts in the courtyard where a mock-up of the e-kiln shows the raw washbasins and conveys a sense of the process of transformation masterfully enacted by Laufen and embodied by the products showcased on the second floor.

The installation, curated by Beda Achermann and Matteo Fiorini of Studio Lys, explores Laufen's dedication to quality excellence and the commitment to a more sustainable production.

Artificial Intelligence guides the experience, transforming visitors' inputs into visual and sound content. In collaboration with Prof. Mancuso, the installation explores the relationship between urban greenery and the cities of the future. The plants used will be returned to nature or adopted by visitors. Among the partner brands, Ecoalf-sustainable lifestyle brand born in 2009, with the vision to stop using natural resources in a careless way to ensure those of the next generation, which with the campaign 'From the seed to your t-shirt' is actively committed to regenerating the soil and generating a positive impact on the human level. This is not just about fashion but a real challenge to rewrite the relationship between humans and the planet, contributing to soil recovery and giving back to nature. Through a video showcasing the project carried out in Ahmedabad, India, visitors can discover and understand the regeneration process, also observing up close the fruits derived from regenerative cotton seeds. The project has enabled the brand to regenerate over 50,000 square meters of land, collaborating with 4,000 farmers.

Caruso, an excellence in tailoring, and Vitale Barberis Canonico, one of the world's oldest wool mills led by a passionate family, present Nous, a mentorship and training project led by architect and designer Gio Pagani, dedicated to young design talents.
Nous (νοῦς), from ancient Greek meaning "creative intuition," encapsulates the essence of mentorship: the transmission of knowledge, guidance in innovation, and the development of a conscious design vision. Nous also means "we" in French, symbolizing a project involving various players united by a passion for creativity and materials.

With Nous, Caruso and Vitale Barberis Canonico offer young designers a concrete opportunity to emerge: guided by Gio Pagani's expertise, four young architects have the chance to develop and create four original design objects linked to the world of sartorial elegance, collaborating with top-tier manufacturing companies specializing in furniture and design accessories.

The project involves four emerging young designers, each with a unique background and a distinctive design vision: Edoardo Patetta, from Milan, an architecture student at the Politecnico di Milano; Matteo Yeuillaz, from Piedmont, a graduate in industrial design from IAAD in Turin; Anna Todorova, from Bulgaria, a graduate in Interior Design from IED Milan; and Elisa Longoni, a Milanese interior designer with degrees in Industrial Product Design and Interior and Spatial Design from the Politecnico di Milano.

Each piece is crafted with deep respect for Japan’s finest materials, allowing their natural beauty to shine in designs that seamlessly fit modern living while ensuring enduring quality. Rooted in tradition yet designed for today, the collection embodies a commitment to craftsmanship that will be passed down for generations.

The 2025 lineup includes a wide range of furniture and lighting, such as lamps, chairs, tables, low tables, ottomans, shelves, and cabinets, each harmonizing with contemporary interiors while preserving the timeless beauty of Japanese craftsmanship and materials.

Led by the Time & Style Design Team, the collection celebrates refined techniques passed down through generations. Some pieces were developed in collaboration with talented designers from around the world, including the Danish studio OEO Studio, Swedish designers Claesson Koivisto Rune, and Japanese designers Drill Design, Kensaku Oshiro, Daisuke Kitagawa, Yumi Terauchi, Hisanobu Tsujimura, Noriko Tsuiki, as well as Taiwan-born, Japan-based designer Yang Hen Chen.

Presented at the Time & Style Milan showrooms, the 2025 selection is a quiet yet profound statement—an invitation to experience the poetry of materials, the elegance of form, and the spirit of craftsmanship that connects past and future.

Valcucine renews its participation in Milan Design Week, continuing the dialogue initiated last year. The focus remains on the Scenari concept, now enriched with new perspectives through a broader interconnection between architecture, design, and emerging disciplines.

With the Connected Scenarios concept, the Valcucine Milan Brera showroom transforms into a hub for reflection and dialogue between designers, architects, and visionaries from cross-disciplinary sectors, alongside brand partners such as e15, Rakumba, and Nice. Together, they will explore the value of connections in the contemporary design world.

Inside and outside the Valcucine space, designed in collaboration with three renowned international architecture studios, Neri&Hu, i29, and ARRCC, the Speakers' Corner of Connected Scenarios will come to life. These will be a series of interviews and discussions offering fresh perspectives on the central themes of Milan Design Week 2025. The conversations will explore how the integration of physical and digital worlds, dialogue between cultures, inclusive design, and sustainability can redefine our way of living and interacting with the built environment.

At the heart of these conversations will be the kitchen scenario, a space for interaction and connection. It serves as both a symbolic and functional backdrop for exploring how design can improve our daily lives, foster social relationships, and promote resource conservation and well-being through innovation.

Malloni presents a collaboration with the Argentine designer Agustina Bottoni, who will present her project "Glass Threads" inside the brand's new boutique in Milan, in Via Ponte Vetero 9. The exhibition, which will extend both inside and in the window, it will offer a unique sensorial experience, highlighting the collection of borosilicate glass objects made in Italy, the result of Agustina's collaboration with local artisans and workshops with Malloni's Spring Summer 2025 collection.

The designer, who graduated in fashion at the University of Buenos Aires and has a master's degree in Product Design at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, founded her studio in 2016. Her collection "The Glass Line" stands out for its sculptural forms inspired by architecture and nature, which are elegant and timeless and aim to enhance the everyday experience. Agustina Bottoni's research is characterized by a perfect balance between traditional craftsmanship and innovation, with particular attention to the durability and aesthetic beauty of objects.

The "Glass Threads" project fits into this philosophy, proposing a reflection on the beauty of imperfect perfection and the harmony between materials and shapes. A vision that ties in perfectly with Malloni's identity, which in the spring-summer 2025 collection is expressed through the concept of Expressive Minimalism.
