AGAPECASA

April 09 2019 -> April 14 2019 from 10am to 9pm

Proudly showing the signs of its age, in the hands of Agapecasa and Stellar Works, this exquisite architectural complex designed by Alziro Bergonzo in the late 1940s, becomes an exploration into the notion of theatre as a place to see and be seen, where roles of “spectator” and “performer” can often be blurred.

Camilla Benedini is the art director of the Agapecasa installation that narrates Angelo Mangiarotti's prolific work by through a journey in five acts, where each stage is dedicated to a unique and timeless object of the Mangiarotti Collection. Each of the spaces, mediated by Matteo Brioni's natural materials, elaborate on the work of the Milanese Maestro through objects, sketches and words printed on curtains like the script of a play.

Neri&Hu conceives the installation for Stellar Works as a collage of multiple small theaters arranged in a sequential journey. In “The Montage”, each theater has a unique orientation and color with stepped levels upon which furniture is displayed. The coveted objects “perform” for visitors, but at the same time, visitors may also find themselves in the spotlight, as various framed openings allow curated views.

April 09 2019 -> April 14 2019 from 11am to 7pm

Alcova is an experimental prototype for an itinerant cultural institution in development by Space Caviar and Studio Vedèt. Currently operating as a roving platform for art and design across multiple sites in and around Milan, it activates forgotten locations and spaces of historical significance, temporarily recasting them as venues for performative activities.

During Fuorisalone 2019 Alcova will occupy two sites, both of which will be open to visitors for the duration of Design Week. Both will be intensely programmed for the event's duration with performances, exhibitions and installations involving over a dozen partners from as many countries.

Alcova is located in the former panettone factory of Giovanni Cova & Co., north of Loreto, an ex-industrial space partly taken over by plants and vegetation, frozen in a state of poetic semi-abandonment.

Alcova Sassetti, organised in collaboration with Alice Stori Lichtenstein and Fondazione Kenta, will activate a former cashmere factory in Isola perfectly preserved in its original condition since the 1930s.

Art is necessary for countless reasons.

This is why guidi felt the urgency to promote an ongoing conversation between art and fashion, inviting all of those who feel art as a vital necessity to send their works, taking part in different contests and exhibitions.
It has been a four years journey now:

“In situ” with the works of the artist laurent segretier has been the inaugural edition of what we hope will be a long standing path of interaction and dialogue. New York, 2015.

“Art for art‘s sake, a contest open to all forms of visual and figurative art. Berlin, 2017.

Now it’s the time of “decontest”, a project born from the need to promote and sponsor young talents of the design world. Milan, 2019.
All the projects in form of a contest are public, open to everybody, with no restrictions.

Guidi believes that art and creativity are today more important than ever, a great mean of comparison and aggregation.

From 10th to 14th of April the Design Pieces will be exhibited at Antonioli, via P. Paoli 1 - Milano

Generous Nature will highlight a basic issue: the ability for design and designers to make a major change in industrial production, opting for sustainable systems that go beyond the simple product and that aspire to a wider project that transcends mere environmental awareness and that includes politics, the economy, regulations, behaviour and social and human relations that are the foundation of design culture.

The three institutions have decided to embark on a common path that, despite using different methods, is marked by a single goal.

For Milano Design Week 2019, from 9 to 14 April, Roger Vivier celebrates creativity and passion for design with a special installation that will be on display at the Biffi Boutiques window on Corso Genova.

Taking inspiration from one of his most innovative creations for the Spring/Summer 2019 collection, the Viv’ Run sneakers, Roger Vivier’s Creative Director Gherardo Felloni designed an overlapping backdrop that mimics the unique mesh pattern found on the Viv’ Run’s sole. Infused with the same dynamism as the shoes it takes inspiration from, the installation shows energy in movement, mixed with a refined design aesthetic.
A balance of form and function, one of the pillars of Roger Vivier that is exemplified by the Viv’ Run. Exclusively for Biffi Boutiques, and in occasion of Salone del Mobile, Roger Vivier presents the limited-edition Viv’ Run sneakers in vibrant orange and pink – a distinct colour combination made especially for this collaboration. Also featuring the Maison’s signature buckle in hot pink, this exclusive release will be available, for a limited time only, in-store and online at www.biffi.com

For the second consecutive year Cascina Cuccagna returns to host De Rerum Natura, the project curated by Matteo Ragni Design Studio. This year’s theme, 500 years after the death of Leonardo da Vinci, is “Renaissance”.

“Renaissance” is the theme that is investigated and explored through an exhibition whose protagonists are the designers who responded to the call for exhibitors of De Rerum Natura: Apepak, Closca, Essent’ial, Kaldewei, Leifheit Italia, Martina Fuchshuber, MiMoto, Naples 2035, Robonica and Styl’editions.

Every year De Rerum Natura hosts a space for cultural deepening, dedicated to a theme, conceived and developed by an independent curator. For the 2019 edition, “Design Collisions – The power of collective ideas”, a small exhibition that brings together great ideas created in communities for communities.
The curator Laura Traldi is a journalist for D La Repubblica and founder of www.designatlarge.it.
For the ten days, De Rerum Natura Rinascimento offers different occasions for meeting and contamination in the unique and evocative settings of Cascina Cuccagna, chosen by Fuorisalone as a privileged location to present sustainable design projects. Among these: Hacking Couture workshop “Making Your Own Prada”; the Design Talk with Apepak, the 100% natural food wrapping that replaces the use of plastic in the kitchen and “Careables On Air” the meeting about the co-design methodology for health care, developed by OpenDot and TOG Foundation.

On the occasion of the 2019 Milano Design Week, British-Italian footwear brand Fiorentini + Baker and interior design firm and vintage designer furniture shop Modernario team up to present their temporary store in Milan. From 8 to 14 April, the Via Tortona 5 location in the heart of the Fuorisalone, will provide the setting for a sale of selected creations from the latest footwear collections by the iconic accessory brand, plus a number of designer pieces dating from the second post-war period to the Eighties, handpicked by the Bolognese vintage store.

Footwear and furniture are both about refined materials, about interpreting and anticipating taste and its transformations, and both combine and require function and beauty.

Footwear and furniture can also share countless stories, about their designers, makers, and users. In this case, they also share a story of friendship, that between Deborah Baker, the creator of the Fiorentini+Baker brand, and Fiorenza Tarroni, founder of Modernario; these two women are the life and soul of this unique project where shoes designed by Deborah, and Fiorenza’s handpicked designer furniture, come together in a celebration of twentieth-century aesthetics.

A project that is not about nostalgia, but about updating and reusing traces of the past to interpret, by means of a lamp or a pair of boots, the protean nature of our present.

Zurich-based bag manufacturer FREITAG and artist Georg Lendorff are inviting all Milan Design Week sophisticates to come along to UNFLUENCER at Ventura Centrale in via Ferrante Aporti 23, where they can admit to their design and consumption transgres- sions and launch a new discussion about good and bad design in the 21st century.

FREITAG intends to change all that and has teamed up with artist Georg Lendorff to stimulate good discus- sions about lousy design and other crimes. They're receiving support in this venture from the scenographers at Ortreport.

At the (spatial) center of «UNFLUENCER – De-sinning the Designer» is Lendorff's immersive, walk-in video and light installation. Projections onto thousands of threads hanging from the ceiling cause visitors' and observers' sense of space and time to dissolve and are a refuge for a brief but contemplative respite from the four-day hustle and bustle in Milan, freed of all external influences.
In the midst of all this, visitors to the installation can admit their design and consumer sins, either alone and anonymously or in a confidential dialog. And for ques- tions regarding what constitutes bad – and hence con- fession-worthy – design and consumer habits, the «FREITAG Cyclist Manifesto» provides some useful guidelines.

The psychology of interior design is a science which studies how internal spaces influence human behavior and how the mind is able to modify surrounding contexts, individuating the consonance between interior and exterior.

In the article "10 WAYS TO STUDY" in the magazine Focus, they suggest to ”select a spot to study" a calm, orderly and well-lit space which helps the mind to reason, thanks to an "automatic effect of conditioning" called priming, which is the moment to concentrate and dedicate oneself to studying.

THE GALLERIA ROSSELLA COLOMBARI draws inspiration precisely from this concept of a "space for concentration" for the exhibition "ARCHI-STUDIO" during the Milan Design Week 2019. The exhibition concept presents the experiences and instruments of research of the spaces where Italian architects of the twentieth century studied, designed, and discussed their ideas, which were often later translated into actual projects, masterpieces of Italian Architecture and Design.

Beyond design. Questioning Design for human survival

The five projects presented, including one from the ENSADlab research laboratory, are the result of multi-disciplinary cross-fertilisation, sensitive research, perspective and transversal, capable of questioning the future of contemporary society and putting forward sustainable, tangible and negotiable proposals. These are projects of a heterogeneous nature, projections, speculative gestures or technologically sophisticated proposals that can already be implemented now.
This new ecology of practices common to the five projects implies the reinvention of the processes of production, design and interaction with our tangible and intangible world through an in-depth exploration of research contexts rarely proposed in the field of design.

With Space Poetry, Kiki examines the relationship between space and architecture, translating it into a series of unique pieces that subtly suggest their own physicality and function.

Joost van Bleiswijk presents Curved and Taped, sculptural forms that focus on the expressive gesture, distancing them from functionality, while hisInterlocking Panels are imaginary objects with interconnected minimalist forms. In Connect, their works are intertwined, pushing past the boundaries of architecture, art and design, and demonstrating that incredible things can happen when we allow ourselves the opportunity to share and collaborate.

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, Leonardo’s Horse will be the protagonist of a major enhancement project.
Created by Snaitech, and curated by Massimo Temporelli and Cristina Morozzi, the Leonardo Horse Project will be part of the Municipality of Milan’s celebration programme: #Leonardo500. It will see the creation of 13 scale reproductions of the Horse, reinterpreted by national and international acclaimed artists.

The Design Horses will be exhibited at the Snai San Siro Racetrack during the Design Week. Furthermore, from May to the end of October they will “invade” the city in a peaceful way by being placed in different Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic places. The Grand Opening, scheduled for 10 April, will kick off the project and will reveal the 13 Horses. On the same day a multimedia exhibition on Leonardo’s studies will be open, in collaboration with the Museo della Battaglia e di Anghiari.

Rapt Studio announce its debut at Salone del Mobile with Tell Me More, an interactive, immersive installation at Ventura Centrale.

With Tell Me More, Rapt explores the intersection of spatial experience and emotional connection, offering visitors the opportunity to experience a microcosm of a Rapt-designed environment. Like the retail, hospitality, workplace and experience design Rapt has executed for some of the world’s most valuable brands (such as Google, Vans, HBO, Twitter, PayPal, and The North Face), Tell Me More invites visitors to feel the emotion of arriving as individuals and leaving as part of something larger.

To bring Tell Me More to life, Rapt partnered with a selection of renowned design brands. Erik Bruce fabricated intricate, artful drapery for key components of the installation, creating thoughtful compositions with both color and opacity. Brooklyn-based lighting studio Rich Brilliant Willing provided decorative fixtures, including their Vitis chandelier; Moooi Carpets by Mae Engelgeer is showcasing their new collaboration, the Swell Signature collection, which uses a soft palette and groovy graphics. Concrete Collaborative is showcasing custom terrazzo platforms and bar tables handmade in California, and Swedish furniture brand Blå Station is displaying their Åhus easy chair, cocktail tables, and a custom Bob sofa. DZINE, the San Francisco furniture showroom and gallery, facilitated the partnership with Sancal, a Spanish furniture company featuring chairs and benches upholstered in Danish fabric. Bart Halpern provided luxurious, iridescent fabrics called Liquid and Opal sourced by Erik Bruce, and The Bradley Collection – a drapery hardware company based in the UK – contributed artisanal hardware. Carnegie and Création Baumann contributed their Chamois fabric.

RO PLASTIC-MASTER’S PIECES calling artists to reuse and reinvent plastic waste.

During the Milan Design Week 2019 gallerist Rossana Orlandi will award the winners of the Ro Plastic Prize, a prize she established in the footsteps of the previous Guiltless Plastic, to encourage a more conscious use of the material. Open to everybody without age limits, the prize is divided into four categories: Home Textiles, Packaging Solutions, Design and Conscious Innovation Projects.

Parallel to the contest event, Rossana Orlandi is presenting an exposition of unique pieces made from recycled plastic. Called “Ro Plastic-Master’s Pieces”.

“I have received over 300 entries from all corners of the world – Turkey, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Canada and China, besides Europe. It’s a nice surprise. I think we need to stop thinking of climate change as a problem of the future. We need to solve it in the present. We have taken up arms to fight a creative, generational battle. Plastic in itself is not to blame; it can become a resource full of possibilities and potential. The real problem is wrong usage. With this contest, I’d like to stimulate and incentivise young people, but not only them, to concentrate on the immense possibilities of recycled plastic. It is an invitation to study, really study, and apply yourself. We want to instigate a return to Nature.”

The House of Russian Design was created in order to represent our country at the world's major design exhibitions. This year the theme of our exposition is export. Appearance of Russian design products on the world stage.

The team chose those design objects that would be interesting in other countries not only from the point of of function and aesthetics, but also did everything to prepare them for export as much as possible. Key attention was paid to the ease of transportation, instructions and documentation, as well as price formation.
The design of the exposition itself supports this idea in a corporate style based on graphic symbols of export packaging.

After launching the original format “less fair, more museum” in the name of quality and excellence, the forthcoming edition of the project by Gisella Borioli with the art director Giulio Cappellini, follows the usual mission ONLY THE BEST with particular attention to the INNOVATION&TRADITION theme.

Tradition, heritage, top-notch handicraft, manual processing, organic materials approach innovation and the most cutting-edge technology with only one goal: simplify and make more beautiful, smart, eco-friendly our homes and our cities. Apparently, nature and technology, tradition and innovation, may seem antithetical, everything revolves around this contrast-tension which is aesthetic as well.

Also the decision to use for Superdesign Show's common parts, two opposite colours, white and black, reflects contrast and at the same time interdependence, as the Yin and Yang philosophy, which is, by no coincidence, evoked by a few exhibitors from the Far East.

At Superstudio Più, in the Central pavilion, an entirely white and black path resembles a city street with a large central square and arcade with a row of elegant “boutiques”. All around, independent buildings, national pavilions, installations, theme exhibitions, emotional lighting, contaminations with art and fashion.

Furniture but also automotive, intangible art exhibitions, 3D softwares, textiles, sophisticated “hotellerie”, outdoor...

During SUPERDESIGN SHOW 2019, Giulio Cappellini presents his new project SUPERHOTEL, an International and yet deeply Italian hotel that mixes specially made top handicraft and industrial products.

A restaurant with different areas describes the world’s cuisines, whereas various types of suites, a large lounge and a gym complete the project. Technology and products intersect one another in a totally natural and contemporary way. A design hotel where you can feel at home anywhere in the world, under the name of diversity with a completely different vision to the uniformity the of hotels of any category. A hotel where everyone can feel at ease, whatever their nationality, profession or aptitude may be. You may sleep in the essential room or in the high-tech one or in the one full of contemporary art works. You can eat on the minimal table, on the artist new-baroque one or on the spectacular one by the star designer or even on a precious antique one, according to the mood.

This is the concept of SUPERHOTEL as explained by art director Giulio Cappellini who once more moves with an ad-hoc project inside research mixing it with elegance and his ability to anticipate trends. To create the ideal and customised hotel are the top names of Italian design, both brands and architects that sign the best production, artisans and artists of the same level.

Moving on through the Piano Nobile, The Litta Variations / Opus 5 presents the collections of Mason Editions, Kober, Arcade and Ecole Camondo.

Mason Editions enters Palazzo Litta to present its latest range of lighting, furnishings and accessories in a new selection of finishes. The collection stands out for the versatility of the objects, the unique combination of materials used and the exquisite craftsmanship. For Palazzo Litta, the artistic director of Mason Editions, Matteo Fiorini, has designed an installation with rigorous, minimal volumes, where each single object takes the centre of its own dedicated stage. The works designed by Martina Bartoli, Serena Confalonieri and Matteo Fiorini are here shown in all their glory and dialogue with the sumptuous surroundings of the palazzo’s interior.

German company Kober has been producing technical porcelain for over 100 years. Here, in collaboration with Olivari, the well-known Italian producer of door handles, Kober presents its range of production possibilities. The exhibition shows the work of 11 German design studiosthat were invited to invent new door handle concepts using porcelain. The participating studios are Sarah & Henrik Böttger, Studio Mark Braun, Uli Budde, Studio Kai Linke, Laura Jungmann, Design Studio Niruk, Studio Jonathan Radetz, Talbot & Mauloubier, Thomas Schnur, Studio Martha Schwindling, KOBER / Beate Wich-Reif. The exhibition also gives an overview of the range of production methods offered by this technical ceramics factory that focuses on surface and a variety of dimensions.

Moving on we come to Imprints, the exhibition of Murano glass objects designed for Arcade by Ivan Baj and Marcello Panza. The title of the show refers to the creation process behind each piece and represents the perfect equilibrium between the designers’ imagination and the artisan’s skill when they bring each concept to life in the glassworks. Each of the works is displayed on a plinth, the simplicity of which highlights the different approaches and creative journeys of each designer.

Ecole Camondo transforms the usually undefined space of the Copper Room into a set in action, positioned between the Main Courtyard and the garden. Teatro del giorno. 6 days, 6 settings change for scenarios is a theatre complete with stage and scenery in which a permanent mutation of the space created by the students takes place under the direction of Mathilde Bretillot. This exhibition is produced in partnership with TIPTOE, a contemporary furniture brand, and with the support of Elitis, Cosentino and Adm.

The focus in the Main Courtyard is on the work of Pezo von Ellrichshausen.

TRIENNALE MILANO - BROKEN NATURE: DESIGN TAKES ON HUMAN SURVIVAL
See on Map
March 01 2019 -> September 01 2019
*
The XXIITriennale di Milano, Broken Nature: Design Takes on Human Survival runs until September 1, 2019. Curated by Paola Antonelli ,Senior Curator of Architecture & Design, Director of Research & Development at The Museum of Modem Art in New York. Broken Nature is an in-depth exploration of the strandslhat connect humans to the natural environment that have been intensely compromised, if not enlirely severed, overthe years.

By casting awide net on architecture and design projects, the exhibition underlines the concept of restorative design, highlighting objects and concepts at all scales that reconsider human beings' relationship with their environmenls-including both naturaland social ecosystems.

The thematic exhibition consists of four works specially commissloned from international designers. The commissioned works have been entrusted to Formafantasma (Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin); to Neri Oxman and her research group, the Medlated Matter Group of MIT Media Lab; to Sigll (Khaled Malas, Salim Al-Kadi, Alfred Tarazi, and Jana Traboulsi), a collective based in Beirut and New York; and to Accurat, a data-driven research, design, and innovation studio based in Milan and New York (project led by Giorgia Lupland Gabriele Rossi.)

ln addition to the commissioned works, the thematic exhibition comprises a selection of circa 100 projects from the last three decades, examples of restorative design, architecture, and art from all overthe world. Among them, Broken Nature includes new installations and objects-like Paola Bay and Armando Bruno's Reliquaries, Dominique Chen's Nuka-doko, and Gocgle Brain's Whale Song-and milestones such as Pettie Petzer and Johan Jonker's Hippo Roller.
Elemental's Quinta Monroy housing, Martino Gamper's 100 Chairs in 100 Days, and Zach Lieberman et al.'s Eyewriter, a low-cost, open source eye-tracking system. By placing these different projects in the same space and within the same conversation, the exhibition aims to unearth design's potential to mediate societaland behavioral changes.

The thematic exhibition features The Great Animal Orchestra, an installation commissioned by the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris and created by the musician and bio-acoustics expert Bernie Krause and by the English studio United VisualArtists (UVA) on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name in 2016. The Great Animal Orchestra immerses visitors into the sounds of nature, offering a visual and acoustic renection on the need to preserve the beauty of the animal kingdom.

Moreover, with an exhibition entitled Milano 2030, a pavilion for the city of Milan is inaugurating the new Urban Center headquartered al the Palazzo dell'Arte.

Broken Nature, the XXII Triennale di Milano includes the special exhibition, The Nation of Plants, curated by the plant neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso, and exploring new ways to look at plants not only in terms of resources, but aise for their potential to teach humans to avoid future catastrophes.

La Triennale di Milano is aise pleased to announce, as part of Broken Nature, the inaugural Bee Awards, which will be granted by an international jury. Three projects among the international participations to the XXII Triennale will be selected on the basis of the poignancy of their interpretatlon of the theme, and the quality and relevance of the ideas they put forward. The three trophies - Golden, Black, and Wax Bee - have been realized by three ltalian artists-Chiara Vigo, Oli Bonzanigo, and Bona Calvi. The recipients of the BeeAwards will be announced at the official opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Workplace3.0 is conceived as an irreplaceable think tank for finding out about and understanding upcoming necessary changes to workspaces. More than just an exhibition, it is a starting point for stimulating forward-looking ideas capable of catering to a changing market and changing needs.

The 2019 edition of Workplace3.0 will debut with a new exhibition format. The 53 exhibiting companies will make their liquid and hybrid presence felt throughout the fairgrounds, another way of underscoring their mission to promote experimentation in design. This new exhibition format is a genuine reflection of the social transformation of the workspace into a flexible, permeable and dynamic area, ripe for professional interaction and engagement with other day-to-day activities.
