Certosa Initiative 2022

June 07 2022 -> June 12 2022

Curated by Beyond Space and Organisation in Design by Margriet Vollenberg, Certosa Initiative is one of the novelties of the 2022 edition, with an exhibition project that takes shapes within a post-industrial space of over 10,000 square meters in which emerging talents and some of the most influential brands in the sector enter into dialogue.

Says Remi Versteeg, co-founder of Amsterdam architects Beyond Space: “With the Certosa Initiative, we’re adding a spectacular newcomer to the Milan Design Week line-up. It’s precisely what designers need right now. We never stopped making, but for too long, we were unable to show; to an audience, yes, but also to each other. We need to mix and mingle, thrive of that mutual exposure to fresh ideas.”

La casa nella casa is the first in a series of events dedicated to Dino Gravina, one of the most revolutionary entrepreneur in the history of design, recipient of Compasso d’Oro career award in 2008.
Centerpiece of the exhibition at ADI Design Museum Compasso d’Oro is the 1:1 reproduction of the “house within the house”, a sort of refuge, a “cube” in which to isolate oneself, which Gavina created inside his own home.

Inside the “house within the house”, rebuilt thanks to the collaboration with his daughter Ilka Alessandra Gavina and presented here for the first time, a video from the Rai Teche archive in which Gavina himself interacts with this peculiar place. A real space-time short circuit for visitors who can enter the “cube” one at a time for a unique experience.
Around the “house within the house”, 11 capsules or better satellites, each dedicated to the designers and artists part of Paradisoterrestre universe: Allen Jones, Augusto Betti, Calori & Maillard, Kazuhide Takahama, Man Ray, Mariyo Yagi, Novello Finotti, Paola Pivi, Pierre Gonalons, Roberto Matta and Tobia Scarpa. Among the exhibited pieces, presented for the first time Shoe screen, a brand new product designed by legendary British pop artist Allen Jones (Southampton UK, 1937) in a limited edition of 30 signed and numbered pieces. On view also a special edition upholstered with Pierre Frey fabric of Noodle armchair designed in 1967 by Augusto Betti (1919-2013).

Zaventem Ateliers – Baranzate Ateliers

This year, the residents of Zaventem Ateliers, together with some guests, will invest in one of the most remarkable places of the historical industrial heritage of Milan, the former Necchi factory in the Baranzate district. Baranzate it’s an opportunity to introduce creations and projects of Belgian designers and artists as well as those presented by their friend galleries and internationally renowned guests but also to show an overview of Zaventem Ateliers philosophy and the possibility of its expansion.

Created in 2019 by Belgian designer, artist and interior architect Lionel Jadot, Zaventem Ateliers is a former industrial wasteland of 6000 m2, located in the village of Zaventem, a stone’s throw from Brussels. This atypical hub brings together an eclectic community of emerging and established creators, designers, artists and scenographers, united by their passion for producing and processing materials. They are focused on high-quality and well-researched objects and strive to produce unique pieces or limited editions which reflect the latest innovations and designs with a purpose of collectible designs.

Belgium is Design, a project whose mission is the promotion of Belgian design at an international level, joins Ateliers Baranzate to give visibility to Belgian designers and companies during Milan design week. This year, Belgium is Design also presents the collective booth The New Belgians at the SaloneSatellite with 13 studios that explore the alliance between science, technology and art, as well as industrial processes and crafts, through assembly methods that give new life to natural materials, for urban and nomadic spaces.
